Murray looked incredibly honored, practically beaming.
"It's my absolute pleasure to serve you, Ms. Vance."
"If you need anything else, just say the word."
Maeve didn't hesitate to put him to work.
"I need you to have your guys pack up my equipment and transport it securely back to The Quiet Garden."
Murray eagerly accepted the mission, thrilled to be of use.
A few feet away, Elena was furiously venting to Mateo about Anya and the traitor in the Student Union.
"You cannot let this slide! If Maeve didn't have a backup plan, our university would have been a laughingstock on national television!"
"Anya planned the whole thing. There were over fifty thousand people watching when her robot failed. If Maeve had choked, who was going to take the blame?"
"She stole someone else's tech to build her own hype and tried to completely humiliate Maeve on stage."
"It's disgusting and totally malicious. You have to report this to the university board!"
Mateo had witnessed Anya's spectacular crash-and-burn, and he agreed completely.
"As soon as the event wraps, I'm calling an emergency meeting with the Student Union. I promise to give Maeve a proper explanation for this."
As the President, he couldn't dodge the responsibility of a massive security breach on his watch.
Plus, it was the perfect excuse to prove his loyalty to Maeve.
Whether it was Anya for stealing the chips, or the insider who slipped her the keys, Mateo was going to hunt down every single one of them.
"Oh, by the way, Elena," Mateo suddenly asked, "weren't you supposed to be at Aether's championship match today?"
Elena gasped, the realization hitting her like a truck. She had a massive esports final to attend.
Aether's match started at 11:00 AM.
It was currently 10:30 AM.
Perfect, she still had time to make it.
Elena began aggressively patting down her pockets.
"Wait... where's my ticket?"
Mateo smirked, enjoying her panic. "Maeve pulled strings to get you that ticket. Don't tell me you actually lost it?"
