Once the squabbling died down, Maeve finally spoke.
"Due to the extreme rarity of its raw materials, The Sentinel is incredibly expensive to produce. Mass production won't be possible anytime soon. Even when it hits the market, the demographic that can actually afford it will be razor-thin."
Slade waved a dismissive hand. "Luxury goods are meant to be enjoyed by the top one percent anyway."
Jasper sneered, "Filthy capitalist."
"There are different kinds of capitalists," Slade retorted. "Some focus on material pleasure, while others obsess over exploiting the working class. Luckily, I fall into the former. I have more money than God, so why shouldn't I make my life as comfortable as possible?"
Slade saw absolutely no flaw in his logic. People preached equality, but was anyone truly born equal? Some came into the world dripping in inherited wealth; others inherited nothing but suffering. Since fate had handed him unimaginable riches, he fully intended to bask in them. Besides, the empire he currently commanded was built on blood and near-death experiences from his youth.
Ignoring their banter, Maeve refocused the room.
"The production costs are astronomical, but the target demographic won't bat an eye at the price tag. However, I think you're all forgetting something. You didn't come here today to be customers. You came here to be partners."
The reminder hit them like a bucket of ice water. She was right. They had come to secure a business alliance. How had they gotten so sidetracked?
Corbin was an amateur when it came to tech, but every single invention Maeve had rolled out today blew him away. Without a second thought, he was the first to speak up.
"Maeve, just name your terms. As long as it doesn't bankrupt my empire, I'll sign the contract right now."
Andres rubbed his temples. In a desperate bid to buddy up to Maeve, Corbin had shamelessly appointed himself Andres's 'brother' without permission. But for the sake of their long-standing friendship, Andres decided to save him the embarrassment of calling him out in front of the others.
