Maeve's voice sliced through the quiet.
"Relax, I'm not forcing you to sign in blood today. Take the contracts home. Run them by your legal teams. If you find a single clause you can't stomach, you're free to walk away. I won't hold a grudge. Just know that the perks of this partnership will disappear with you. You have until the conclusion of the Grover Group's upcoming product launch to make your final choice."
Corbin vaguely recalled the Grovers hyping up an event. "Are they rolling out the new cosmetic line from Lab C?"
Maeve nodded. "Spot on, Mr. Shaw."
Corbin scoffed playfully. "Drop the 'Mr. Shaw' nonsense. Just call me Corbin."
Jasper looked deeply offended. "Stop trying to ride my coattails. I'm Maeve's best friend. Basically family."
The usually silent Mason flashed Maeve an enigmatic smile. "You certainly have a lot of men looking out for you."
Maeve's expression stiffened. She knew a veiled warning from Mason when she heard one. She let out a dry laugh. "They're just friends messing around."
Andres's sharp instincts picked up on the strange, electric tension crackling between Maeve and Mason. But before he could dissect it, Declan shifted the room's focus.
"Has anyone heard of the FOX Research Institute?" Declan asked.
Slade looked blank. "What the hell do they research?"
"Their operations are identical to the Grover Group's Lab C," Declan explained. "The only reason I bring them up is because Maeve mentioned the Grover launch. Rumor in the industry says the FOX Research Institute is hosting their own major product launch right after the Grovers."
Corbin looked thoroughly confused. "And how are those two things connected?"
Andres wanted to point out that she was literally an elite hacker, but held his tongue.
Mason finally chimed in with some answers. "I've caught wind of the FOX launch as well. They're headquartered in Brinxton, and Ashe is an undisputed genius. Declan's instincts are likely correct. A shadowy firm like FOX stepping into the spotlight right now? It's almost guaranteed they're gunning for the Grovers."
Slade's adrenaline spiked. "Then what the hell are we waiting for? Get this Ashe guy on the phone and lock down a partnership."
Declan quickly poured cold water on his enthusiasm. "The contact info for FOX's founder is just as heavily guarded as the institute itself."
"Meaning?" Slade frowned.
"Meaning," Jasper mocked, "nobody knows how to reach him, you idiot."
