Cassia, entirely immersed in her role, didn't expect to run into Maeve here. "What are you—"
As she tried to rise from the booth, Maeve shoved her right back down into the seat.
"Curious why I'm here?"
Maeve's appearance was entirely outside her expectations. She had arranged to meet Andres White; why did Maeve show up instead?
"When you texted him, I was using his phone to binge-watch a show," Maeve quickly cleared up her confusion.
Cassia was internally shaken but expertly maintained the composed facade of a high-society heiress.
"So, does he know you're here?"
Maeve flashed a playful smile.
"Take a wild guess."
Feigning indifference, Cassia scoffed.
"There's no need to play coy with me."
"Even if he won't see me now, he'll come around eventually."
"Our connection is destined by fate."
The handsome young bartender placed a freshly mixed cocktail in front of Maeve.
Taking the glass, Maeve offered him a bright smile.
"Hey gorgeous, your name is Zane Arden, right?"
The bartender looked surprised.
"Miss Vance, you remember me?"
Maeve took a sip of the cocktail; it was as intoxicating as ever.
"With eyes as beautiful as yours, how could I forget?"
Zane's ears turned slightly pink, and he flashed a shy smile.
If other customers hadn't come up to order, he would have loved to keep chatting with her.
On second thought, maybe it was for the best. His boss had warned him that the man standing behind Miss Vance was someone he absolutely could not afford to offend.
As soon as Zane walked away, Cassia made a snide remark.
"Aren't you afraid I'll tell Andres that you're flirting with the bartender?"
