"You mean Jaroen?"
Naomi nodded.
"Jaroen has been using Southeast Asian dark magic to serve the elites of Aethelburg."
"First the Salazar family, then the Grovers. It's highly likely the Thorntons are tied up with him, too."
"If, and I mean just if, we can use Mia to capture Jaroen..."
"...couldn't we follow his trail straight to the real Nancy?"
Naomi wanted Nancy dead just as badly as Maeve did, desperate to avenge Charlie.
But the real Nancy was clearly playing on a much higher level than the fake one.
She refused to show her face and left zero traces. They wanted to rip her to shreds, but they couldn't even find her.
Maeve knew Naomi wouldn't drag her to some boring party without a good reason.
So this was the real motive.
"Naomi! Come play a game with your friend!"
Mia's friends waved them over.
Maeve nudged Naomi forward, whispering in her ear. "Go play. I'm going to look around."
She couldn't shake the feeling that the person she was looking for was close by.
Leonardo Salazar had warned her that Jaroen was incredibly dangerous and highly intelligent.
He hadn't just dodged the Salazar family's pursuit multiple times; he had completely wiped out Leonardo's uncle's family when they fled abroad.
Leonardo was absolutely certain Jaroen was still in Aethelburg.
The Salazar family had planted informants on every possible escape route out of the city.
To be living so comfortably right under the Salazar family's nose, Jaroen must have found himself a powerful new patron.
And that patron just might be the wealthy, naive Mia Sutton.
Naomi had mentioned that this was Mia's private villa, used exclusively for hosting parties.
Stepping out of the first-floor buffet area, Maeve spotted a Scorpion Familiar lurking in the corner.
Maeve's brow furrowed.
Why would there be a Scorpion Familiar inside Mia's villa?
Just then, her phone rang.
