...their brotherly bond was undeniably real.
He shared Maeve's burning hatred, ready to tear the masterminds apart with his bare hands.
Spotting two strangers cowering in the hidden room, Benjamin shot her a questioning look.
"Who are these two?"
He gestured vaguely at the huddled figures.
One was Jaroen, who was trying desperately to blend into the floorboards.
Maeve's sheer brutality had shattered what little courage the sorcerer possessed.
The other was Daisy, bruised and battered, barely keeping herself conscious.
Since she had more pressing matters to attend to, Maeve delegated the cleanup.
"You heard about Leonardo Salazar getting cursed with a Dark Curse, right? This sleazy bastard is the fugitive they're looking for."
Benjamin's eyes instantly lit up.
"Spark Industries has a few major projects coming up that could really use the Salazars' influence."
"I'll gladly accept this little early New Year's present."
He gave a sharp nod to his men, who immediately seized the trembling man.
As they wrenched his arms behind his back, Jaroen finally found his voice.
"Miss Vance! You promised you wouldn't kill me! You can't go back on your word!"
Maeve looked at him with a lazy, mocking smile.
"Before I found you, I heard you were searching the entire world for me."
He instantly understood what she meant.
"Those were just rumors!"
Before today, he had genuinely wanted to get back at her.
After all, she was the reason he ended up on the Salazar hit list, making it impossible for him to survive in Aethelburg.
But after witnessing her slaughter half a dozen men, that desire had completely evaporated.
If a ruthless monster like The Clown was reduced to a sniveling wreck at her feet...
...he was nothing more than an appetizer she could crush at will.
Benjamin had zero patience for his whining.
Maeve didn't sugarcoat it.
"Collateral damage. They grabbed her to get to me."
Daisy vigorously shook her head.
"No, it was my own fault. I just had incredibly bad luck today."
It was purely terrible timing—she had just wanted to grab a few books on her day off.
She hadn't even made it to the bus stop before a luxury car pulled up and dragged her inside without a word.
Benjamin snorted.
"If the Grovers want you, luck has nothing to do with it."
He turned back to Maeve.
"If we're keeping her safe, she can't go back to her place. Plus, she needs a doctor, stat."
Daisy's jaw dropped.
"What do you mean I can't go home? You're taking me with you?"
"Well, where else do you plan on going?" he countered.
