The next day, Naomi Lowell used the excuse of a social visit to check on Maeve at Azure Bay.
"You're pregnant?"
Upon hearing the news, Naomi was just as ecstatic as Andres had been.
"Does this mean in ten months, two little angels are going to be calling me Godmother?"
Maeve couldn't help but laugh.
"What kind of newborn starts talking straight out of the womb?"
Naomi was still reeling from the shock, gently resting her hand on Maeve's flat stomach.
"Twins. Maeve, you really hit the jackpot." She couldn't wait for them to be born.
"Naomi, I never knew you were such a fan of kids."
Naomi thought it was a ridiculous question.
"Who doesn't love a soft, squishy little baby?"
Maeve teased her. "If you love them so much, why don't you and Declan just have one?"
Naomi and Declan Fulton had attended Andres's birthday party together, after all.
The topic instantly hit a nerve.
Seeing the smile vanish from Naomi's face, Maeve immediately sensed something was wrong.
"Did Declan do something to upset you again?"
Naomi clearly didn't want to talk about it and tried to deflect.
"I'm the only one who bullies people. Who would be brave enough to bully me?"
"Naomi, hiding the bad stuff means you aren't treating me like a real friend."
Naomi knew Maeve's intuition was razor-sharp, and they were best friends who shared everything.
"It's not about bullying. We care about each other, but he refuses to make our relationship public."
Naomi didn't think there was anything shameful about herself.
