“He died suddenly while still in custody, and then the matter was dropped without any explanation. Doesn’t that sound like someone was pulling the strings from behind the scenes?”
“I’ve suspected for a while that Mom’s death wasn’t really an accident.”
“Now it seems certain someone was plotting to kill her.”
And would her mother, a woman who had just given birth, really be so disoriented that she would first leave a memento for her daughter and then just walk out of the hospital on her own?
Why would she leave the hospital?
What other secrets were hidden behind all this?
A thick fog of mystery obscured everything. Every time she pushed through one layer, another appeared.
But one thing was certain now. Her mother had been murdered.
The more certain she became, the more Wiona’s heart ached.
It was a pain mixed with hatred and fury.
She would find these killers.
Conrad gently placed a hand on Wiona’s shoulder. “Wiona, don’t forget a key point.”
“You just mentioned that when your mother was in Easton Heights, she hired a detective agency to find someone.”
“Who do you think she was looking for?”
Wiona’s hand, holding the documents, froze.
Did she even need to guess?
Her gaze fell. “My father, wasn’t it?”
Conrad said, “That detective agency closed down right after your mother passed away.”
“Trying to find any of their old files or records now would be nearly impossible.”
“But you’ve probably already pieced together the truth.”
“The person your mother was searching for is the same person you’re looking for now. Your biological father.”
Wiona’s fingertips trembled. “So, after Mom left the Blue family, she couldn’t get in touch with him. She was looking for him the whole time.”
