Juniper looked out the window and, sure enough, flames were shooting into the sky, accompanied by the continuous roar of explosions.
"What's going on?"
Panic erupted in the lab. The personnel scrambled, descending into total chaos.
"The stuff in that warehouse is the boss's lifeline.
If it burns to the ground, there's no telling how he's going to react."
"What stuff?" Juniper asked, feigning innocent curiosity.
"In the warehouse?" A few subordinates exchanged nervous glances before one answered, "Flowers. They're all the flowers the boss cultivated himself."
Flowers?
Shanley certainly knew how to pick his targets.
This was going to make the old bastard pop a blood vessel. Perfect.
"Inform Corvus that the genetic modification results are ready."
"Right away."
Less than five minutes later.
The lab doors flew open, and Corvus stormed in, practically radiating murderous frost.
Well, well.
He looked absolutely livid.
"You have the results?" Corvus glared at Juniper. Beneath the sheer fury in his eyes, there was a flicker of desperate excitement.
"Yes, I'm just finalizing it."
Juniper didn't move from her computer, casually throwing bait. "I heard the warehouse caught fire?"
"That's none of your concern."
Corvus clasped his hands behind his back, his gaze lethal. "Focus on your work."
The fire had started out of nowhere, and it was unnaturally aggressive. Plus, the warehouse was packed with perfectly preserved dried flowers.
They acted as pure kindling. It was going to take hours to put the fire out.
"I heard all the flowers burned to ash?" Juniper smirked, twisting the knife. "Were those the ones you were saving for my mom?"
Corvus's fists clenched so tightly his knuckles popped. He ground his teeth together, swallowing his rage.
"Care to share your feelings with the class?" Juniper blinked innocently, a bright smile on her face. "Your precious flowers are completely gone. How does that make you feel?"
"How do you think?"
