Hannah's words were perfectly rehearsed.
She had navigated the corporate battlefield long enough to know exactly how to play the game.
Anyone who made it into the Blake Group had to have serious skills.
The problem was, the company was overflowing with elite talent, making someone with Hannah's average abilities fade into the background.
Hearing Hannah's apology, Bella's tense expression softened slightly. She seemed appeased.
Of course, it was just a facade. Deep down, Bella was seething.
She believed Hannah owed her everything. If it wasn't for Bella lifting her up, Hannah wouldn't be outranking so many others in the department.
Without her patronage, Hannah would still be a nobody.
Sure, compared to the upper executives, Hannah was still a minor player, but her salary and perks had skyrocketed because of Bella.
More importantly, Bella had introduced her to Brandon Mercer. During their two-year relationship, Hannah had undoubtedly milked Brandon for plenty of luxury perks.
In Bella's mind, Hannah had gained immense wealth and status just by knowing her, so she owed her absolute loyalty.
When Sebastian forced Hannah to transition Bella's accounts, Hannah should have outright refused.
Instead, she complied without a fight. That was what pissed Bella off the most.
It felt like a blatant betrayal.
Still, Bella desperately needed inside intel on the Blake Group, and her other sources were dead. Since Hannah was offering an olive branch, Bella decided to play along.
"What are you apologizing for?" Bella said, her tone dripping with passive-aggression. "For all I know, you'll be getting a massive promotion once this blows over.
"And I'll be the one out of a job.
"I really don't deserve such a grand apology from you."
Anyone with ears could hear the bitter resentment lacing her words.
Hannah quickly forced a bright smile and raised her glass. "Don't be mad at me, Bella. Let me raise my glass to apologize."
