She pushed the door open, ready to step out, only to immediately lock eyes with Bella, who was glaring at her with cold, unbridled disgust.
Fifty percent of the joy vanished from Debbie's face instantly.
"You..."
Before she could finish her sentence, she noticed the massive male bodyguard looming right behind Bella.
Their last physical altercation had ended with Debbie thoroughly beating the life out of Bella. Clearly, Bella was still terrified from that thrashing, which was why she had brought a hired muscle to play escort.
Seeing the bodyguard, Debbie knew she wasn't leaving that room tonight.
Abandoning the fight before it even started, she backed away and retreated into the room.
Bella stepped inside, the bodyguard trailing closely behind her.
Debbie tossed her purse aside and collapsed onto the sofa in a dramatic display of defeat. Moving with practiced ease, she pulled out a cigarette and a lighter, lighting up and taking a long drag.
Unable to swallow the bitter resentment of having her night ruined, she snapped, "Are you a ghost or something? Sneaking around in the dead of night. What the hell are you doing here, and who are you trying to scare with the muscle?"
The bodyguard remained planted firmly a few feet away from Bella, clearly on high alert.
It wasn't just him being cautious; it was glaringly obvious that Bella had explicitly ordered him to intervene the second Debbie tried anything physical.
Bella had been slapped around so much lately that she was practically a laughingstock, but the swelling on her face had at least gone down quickly.
Staring coldly at Debbie, Bella kicked the designer bag Debbie had tossed onto the sofa. "Where exactly were you planning to go in the middle of the night if I hadn't shown up?
Don't even try to tell me you have a girls' night planned."
In all of Northwyn, no decent human being would ever consider Debbie Harris a friend.
Whenever she claimed she was going out with friends, it was just a pathetic excuse to go gamble.
