With Charlie's arrival, everyone's attitude pulls a complete 180.
Emily has absolutely nothing left to say. "I've made myself clear. You can leave now."
Sterling nervously glances at Charlie before saying deferentially, "Mr. James, Emily, we'll head back now. If there's ever anything you need from me, please don't hesitate. I'm at your beck and call."
Charlie gives a flat, indifferent "Mhm."
Sterling and Kimberly practically sprint out the door.
The reception room door clicks shut again. Emily lets out a soft sigh and leans her head against Charlie's shoulder, looking down in dismay. "I thought I could handle it myself. I didn't expect you'd have to step in after all."
Charlie turns his head to look at her, a gentle smile playing on his lips. His deep, resonant voice is soothing. "This was never just your problem. You're dealing with all this trouble because you're marrying me. We should handle it together."
His tone grows even more tender. "Husband and wife are one entity. We share the glory and the hardships. Aren't you ready for that yet?"
Emily blinks, looking up at him. A sweet, innocent dimple appears on her cheek. "I am!"
Perhaps every difficult ordeal is meant to sharpen them, forcing them to grow together, to learn how to care for each other's feelings, and to fully integrate into each other's hearts.
After all, they have a lifetime to spend together, and there will be many more trials ahead.
As she speaks, her warm breath brushes against the corner of his lips. His gaze darkens with desire as he leans down to capture her lips.
Emily dodges slightly, suddenly remembering something, and frowns. "Did you plant a mole in my company?"
Sterling and the others had barely arrived before Charlie showed up. She couldn't help but be suspicious!
