The two men hurried through the lobby and burst into the office. Spencer was already there, but so were Xavier and Wyatt.
The moment Warren walked in, Wyatt sprang to his feet, absolutely livid.
He marched over and grabbed Warren by the collar. "You son of a bitch, you played me!"
Warren instantly realized why Xavier and Wyatt were here. He wasn't afraid of them, but he was terrified of Spencer.
He shoved Wyatt's hand away, straightened his tie, and immediately began brown-nosing Spencer.
"Mr. Manning, I'm Warren Wallace. I handle all the construction for the hotel project. A few of the B&Bs overlap with the golf course we mapped out, so we offered them a payout to relocate."
He pointed an accusing finger. "These two came to me on behalf of the Donovan family. They tried to bribe me to spare the property. I refused, so they showed up here to cause trouble!"
"That is pure bullshit!" Wyatt roared. "You agreed to the deal, went back on your word, and then tried to frame my buddy!"
Warren kept his eyes entirely on Spencer. "Mr. Manning, everything I do is for the good of the hotel! I would never betray this company!"
Spencer finally spoke up. "Manager Wallace, who exactly tried to bribe you?"
Warren pointed straight at Xavier. "Him! He bought me dinner and tried to hand me a bag of cash. I refused it! My assistant can vouch for me!"
Sitting next to Xavier, Norah burst out laughing.
Spencer's expression shifted into something deeply complex and almost amused. "You're saying Mr. Flemmings tried to bribe you?"
"Yes, it was him!" Warren insisted stubbornly.
"Do you even know who Mr. Flemmings is?" Spencer asked.
Warren froze. He could tell there was a hidden weight to Spencer's words, and he didn't dare answer.
Spencer was a founding executive of the Hanson family corporation, commanding immense respect across the board. He stood up, walked over to Xavier, and bowed respectfully. "Young Master. I'll have Wallace fired immediately and bring someone new in to take over the hotel project. Rest assured, whether we redesign the golf course entirely or scrap the project altogether, the Donovan house will not be touched!"
