It seemed that life had finally calmed down.
Martin Clarke was in prison, and so was Ethan.
Old Mr. Clarke's health wasn't what it used to be, but his spirits were improving daily. Seeing Damien take the reins had put his mind at ease.
As for Grace, she was recovering well at the hillside villa.
Marianne sent over nourishing soup every few days, and Damien had practically moved his office into the study, wanting to keep her by his side twenty-four-seven.

Beatrice stood at the entrance to the small second-floor living room, her expression troubled as she hesitated to speak.

Grace's fingers tightened abruptly, crinkling the page of her book.
Mr. Hart.
Alistair Hart.
Her biological father.
"Let him in."
Grace took a deep breath, her voice as cold as ice.
Some wounds had to be lanced sooner or later.
There was no running from it.
A few minutes later, Alistair Hart walked into the living room.
Grace almost didn't recognize him.
Was this the same spirited, self-righteous Chairman Hart who was always spouting platitudes? The Alistair Hart before her had hair that was mostly gray and as messy as a bird's nest.
His suit was wrinkled, the cuffs smudged with dirt from who-knows-where.
His cheeks were hollowed, and the bags under his eyes were so large they nearly reached his chin.
He looked as if he had aged twenty years in an instant.
It made sense. The Hart family was bankrupt.
When Damien made a move, he never left his enemies an escape route.
Not only was the company gone, but all their properties and luxury cars had been liquidated to cover their debts.
"Grace..."
