The rain fell all night.
The next morning, as Damien was reviewing documents, Felix entered with a letter.
“Mr. Clarke, a letter just arrived at the front desk. It's unsigned but addressed specifically to you.”
Damien didn’t look up. “Just throw things like that away.”
“But…” Felix hesitated. “The envelope mentions your wife’s name.”
Damien’s brow furrowed, but he relented.
“Bring it here.”
The envelope was plain, and sure enough, Grace’s name was written on it.
He opened it. Inside was a single piece of paper torn from a notebook, the handwriting messy.
[Be careful of a woman in red. She seems to be planning something against Grace. She’s very wealthy.]
There was no signature, but the handwriting looked familiar to Damien.
He thought for a moment and had a good idea of who sent it.
Damien folded the note, put it in a drawer, and instructed Felix, “Investigate if any suspicious women have recently contacted Ethan or anyone from the Hart family.”
“Yes, sir.”
Felix left to carry out the order.
The investigation turned up results within hours.
Serena Shum, a Chinese-American who had recently returned to the country. She was in the international chemical trade, with a clean background and substantial assets. Besides a rather ostentatious personality, there was no discernible history of grudges with either the Clarke or Hart families.
Damien looked at the photo of the glamorous woman in the file, a cold glint in his eyes.
He had previously sent people to watch Cassian.
The former heir of the Hart family seemed to have had a change of heart and was now earnestly running an old bookstore.
And he was certain Cassian wouldn't make baseless claims.
Two days later, at Graceline Technologies.
Grace had just returned to her office after a meeting when the front desk called.
“Mrs. Clarke, a Ms. Shum is here. She says she wants to discuss a partnership on the new energy project. She doesn’t have an appointment, but… she said you’ll regret it if we don’t let her up.”
Grace raised an eyebrow.
“Send her up.”
Five minutes later, the office door opened.
