Grace's repeated attempts to intervene were starting to annoy Ivy.
"Oh, here we go again."
Ivy's tone was laced with displeasure. "Lucian said he just moved to Jarrow City and doesn't have much savings, but he'll work hard to pay off the mortgage. Besides, it's not like I'm short on money."
"This isn't about the money!" Grace said, frantic. "I thought the same thing when I married Ethan! I gave him all my patents, all my savings, and what did I get in return?"
"That was you!" Ivy retorted loudly. "Lucian isn't Ethan! And I'm not you! I'm not some fool who has to rely on a man!"
Grace fell silent.
Ivy bit her lip. "Grace, I know you mean well. But I'm thirty years old. I've finally met someone who is genuinely good to me, and I'm willing to trust him."
"Even if I end up losing, I'll accept it."
Grace closed her eyes, a heavy weight settling in her chest.
"Fine."
She said softly, her voice filled with exhaustion. "Then I wish you happiness."
"But Ivy, remember this. If one day you find out you were wrong, don't forget that I'm still here for you."
After hanging up, Grace tossed her phone aside and curled up on the sofa, hugging her knees.
Damien came over and held her.
"Let it go."
Grace shook her head. "She's my best friend. When I was kicked out by the Hart family and at my lowest, she took me in and shared her last packet of ramen with me."
Damien sighed. "I've already had someone start tailing that Lucian Chow. The second he does anything suspicious, I'll have him arrested."
"As for the rest…"
Damien sounded a bit helpless himself. "Maybe she needs to learn a hard lesson. She's not a child anymore."

That winter seemed to stretch on forever.
February 14th, Valentine's Day.
Ivy woke up early, put on exquisite makeup, and pulled a new red wool coat from her closet. After checking her reflection several times, she left the house, satisfied.
Nine o'clock.
Ivy arrived at City Hall right on time.
There were many couples lined up outside, all with happy smiles on their faces.
