“Alright, I get it. I’ll work with Henry to sort things out, but… are you sure you don’t want me to come with you to Mistfall Atoll?”
“No need. I’m bringing Arrow and Renata, and Leo will be waiting for me over there. We’ll be fine. Don’t forget, we’ve got our own people on the island too.”
Laurinda closed her laptop and stood up. There was a spark in her dark eyes as she gave a cold, almost playful smile. “Time for me to go back and collect what’s mine.”
Renata and Arrow grabbed their luggage and headed out. York followed Laurinda, looking worried, and reminded her, “If you run into any trouble, go find Felix. He’ll help you.”
The mention of that old name made Laurinda’s eyelid twitch. She waved York off. “Relax. I won’t need him. I can handle it. Just make sure you deal with the Queen situation for me.”
She slid into the car, which took off straight for the airport. Arrow kept checking Laurinda’s reflection in the rearview mirror. Once he was sure she seemed okay, he dropped his gaze and sent a message to Foley.
Renata caught all of this. She threw an arm around Arrow’s shoulders and teased him, “Whoever you’re with becomes your new boss, huh? Don’t forget which team you’re on.”
Arrow froze for a second, looking embarrassed. He turned to Laurinda and explained, “Foley was just worried about you. He asked if you were alright.”
Laurinda barely opened her eyes. “Tell Foley that once I get there, they’ll be the ones who aren’t alright.”
She didn’t say anything else and leaned back to rest. Her head had been pounding ever since she heard Adolphus was hurt. She was doing everything she could to keep her emotions in check, worried that if she lost it, Mistfall Atoll wouldn’t survive her temper.
Fourteen hours later, their plane touched down in Kaston, a city about three thousand kilometers from Mistfall Atoll.
As soon as they got off the plane, a shuttle pulled up right in front of them. Leo hopped out and jogged over to Laurinda.
Renata glanced at the flight info board, raised an eyebrow, and grinned. “Laurinda must have her reasons. We just need to do what she says. Are you hungry? Let’s grab something to eat.”
Honestly, Renata didn’t know why Laurinda wanted to land in Kaston either. But the moment Leo showed up, she realized she wasn’t that important anymore. Someone else would be taking care of everything for Laurinda now.
“I am kind of hungry. Should we invite Laurinda to join us?”
“No need. She’s not like us. Someone will look after her.”
Renata threw her arm around Arrow’s shoulder, and the two of them headed off to the food court, joking around like old friends.
When Laurinda stepped into the lounge, she spotted six of the top medical experts already waiting. She walked over and greeted each of them with calm confidence.
