From Ashes of Scandal to His Embrace (Laurinda) novel Chapter 443

Sam came in holding an oral syringe and showed Laurinda how to use it. With Laurinda and Seraphina working together, they managed to get the warm medicine into Adolphus without much trouble.

Sam watched from the side, his eyes widening when he saw Adolphus swallow. “He’s swallowing it. Look, he can actually swallow,” he said, sounding both surprised and relieved.

Kendrick, who’d been watching Sam get all worked up, patted him on the back and gave him a look that said, Are you serious? He said in a lazy drawl, “Of course he can swallow. He’s in a coma, not gone.”

Immediately, Sam got two dramatic eye-rolls. He touched his nose, embarrassed, and looked away. Maybe he’d gotten a little too excited.

Once the medicine was done, it was already late. Seraphina and Kendrick headed out of the hospital. Sam wanted to stay behind, but Laurinda wouldn’t let him.

“You really don’t need to spend the night here. I’ve got it covered. Go home and get some rest.”

After Sam left, Laurinda locked the hospital room door, grabbed her clean clothes, and headed for the bathroom. After a shower, she slipped into bed beside Adolphus, told him goodnight out of habit, then closed her eyes and drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

The next morning, the specialists showed up with Balaam. They checked on Adolphus, then Balaam did another round of acupuncture.

Laurinda was much calmer this time. She sat out in the hallway, flipping through her textbook, determined not to waste a single minute.

She heard footsteps echoing down the corridor, so she looked up and spotted York walking over. Closing her book, she raised an eyebrow at him.

“You made it?”

“Yeah, and I brought some good news. Take a look.”

York sounded genuinely surprised. When he’d looked into Magnolia, he hadn’t found any link between her and Laurinda. Even their design styles never crossed. Why would Magnolia go through all this trouble?

“We don’t know each other. She probably did it because of Adolphus. Back when Seraphina was studying abroad, she and Magnolia got along pretty well. Adolphus went to visit Seraphina once, and I guess that’s when Magnolia started paying attention to him.”

Laurinda couldn’t help but laugh. She imagined how Adolphus would react when he woke up and found out about all this. He’d probably be completely grossed out, getting caught up in some messy crush he never even knew about. Talk about bad luck.

“Wait, are you serious? So when did she even start targeting you?” York was clearly stunned. Were all women really this intense?

“I’m not sure exactly. When we were at the resort, I had this weird feeling someone was following me. I thought maybe it was someone from the Charles family. I kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing ever did, and I just forgot about it.”

“Later, I remembered something Adolphus said while he was sorting through my sketches. It made me wonder who checked into my room after I left. I looked it up out of curiosity, and sure enough, Magnolia moved into our room the day we checked out.”
