From Ashes of Scandal to His Embrace (Laurinda) novel Chapter 505

Adolphus held Laurinda’s hand and guided her over to the car parked by the curb. He opened the door for her, and they both got in together.

Egan watched them, his eyes flicking from one to the other. Now that they’d made up, it was like nothing else existed for them. Love really does make people crazy, he thought, and sighed, quietly accepting defeat.

Since it was getting late, Laurinda decided to skip school and go with Adolphus straight to Balaam’s place.

When the four of them arrived, Regan and Fidelia were in the middle of lunch. They both paused in surprise, chopsticks midair, not quite believing that the four of them had just walked in.

Regan set her fork down with a little clatter, quickly getting up from her chair and heading straight for Adolphus. She gave him a once-over from head to toe and let out a dramatic gasp.

“Oh my goodness, you gave us such a scare. But you look so much better. When I heard about your accident, we were all worried sick. And the moment you woke up, Balaam called me right away to let us know you were okay. Still, I thought for sure you’d need a long rest.”

Adolphus reached out to steady Regan. He smiled gently, the kind of smile that was warm and reassuring.

“I’m really fine now. I should have come by sooner to see you and Fidelia and let you know I was alright, but things just got so busy. I’m sorry it took me this long.”

“It’s alright,” Regan said, letting out a big breath. “Seeing you here is all I needed.”

Finally convinced that Adolphus was truly on the mend, Regan relaxed. She tugged Laurinda and Adolphus over to the table and motioned to Foley and Egan, who were hanging back, unsure where to stand.

“You two must not have eaten yet, right? Give me a minute, I’ll whip up something quick.”

Laurinda reached over to hold Regan’s arm before she could head off. “No need, really. We just wanted to stop by and see you and Fidelia. We can eat out later.”

“We’ve got fresh vegetables from the garden and it’ll only take a second. Stay here and catch up with Fidelia,” Regan replied, not giving them a chance to protest as she hurried back to the kitchen.

It was clear that Laurinda’s biggest concern was always Fidelia’s health. He wanted to make sure everything was alright.

Fidelia smiled in understanding. Adolphus was as thoughtful as ever.

Adolphus looked calm as he checked her pulse, first on one wrist, then the other. When he finished, he looked up and said, “Fidelia’s health is really good. Even that lingering cold you’ve had for years is gone. You’re in excellent shape.”

Laurinda finally relaxed, a relieved smile breaking across her face. Fidelia squeezed her hand and gave it a gentle pat.

“I told you I’ve been doing really well. I actually went to the sanatorium for a follow-up two weeks ago. Earl said there’s nothing to worry about anymore. Oh, did you hear about this? I happened to run into his mom while I was there. She was visiting the sanatorium, trying to hunt him down and push him into getting married. Apparently, she even asked him to go back home and take over the family business.”

“Getting married?” Laurinda repeated, surprised. She glanced up at Adolphus to see if he’d heard, but Adolphus just shook his head, looking as confused as she was.
