“I’m the principal at The Apex School. I heard you crossed Theodora, and now the new campus project for The Cabinda School is getting dragged down. Laurinda, back when you still had the Carl family’s backing, you might have carried some weight around here. But that’s over now. Don’t go ruining The Cabinda School’s future, alright? If you still want to graduate without any problems, go beg the Carl family to keep investing in our school.”

The threat in his voice was obvious. Laurinda couldn’t help but let out a quiet, derisive laugh.

“And what if I don’t?” she asked.

“If you don’t, I’ll make your grades public. Let’s see what university would take you then.”

Rumor had it Laurinda wanted to study in Cabinda, and the principal was sure her grades weren’t good enough to get her into any school without a few strings being pulled. He seemed convinced some family connections had gotten her in. He definitely thought she’d panic if her academic record got out.

Listening to his smugness, Laurinda actually smiled. She hadn’t been threatened like this in ages. It was honestly almost entertaining.

“Go ahead, then. Let’s see how things shake out. Maybe I can’t go to university, or maybe you’ll lose your job. Either way, I’m curious to find out.”
