Julian pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and offered one to Jeff, who lit Julian’s before his own.
Exhaling a slow plume of smoke, Jeff thought about Julian’s recent behavior and laughed.
“After all these years, I didn’t know you had a ‘good Samaritan’ side.”
Julian shrugged. “Neither did I. I’m just following my gut.”
“That little beauty is Hudson Walter’s wife, right? Their divorce is a bloodbath on the internet right now…”
Jeff paused, looking at Julian with genuine clinical concern in his eyes.
“Getting this close to her while she’s in a legal war will drag you into the line of fire. It’s a massive headache you don’t need, Julian. Think carefully.”
Julian elegantly flicked his ash, letting out a sharp, dismissive snort.
“You think I can’t handle a little heat? What you call a headache is a minor inconvenience to me.”
Jeff saw the absolute resolve in his friend and turned serious.
“Is she worth it?”
Julian offered a lazy, enigmatic smile.
“I’m realizing that for some people, you don’t calculate the cost.”
“Pfft-”
Jeff couldn’t help but laugh out loud at the irony.
“A businessman saying that? If your overseas clients heard you, they’d have a collective heart attack.”
Julian shot him a warning glance.
“Just keep your mouth shut until I have what I want.”
Jeff nodded knowingly, miming a zipper across his lips.
“My lips are sealed.”
Julian jerked his chin toward the warehouse, where muffled screams were still echoing through the metal walls
“Increase the pressure. I want the name of the handler by tomorrow night.”
Jeff patted his chest.
“Consider it done.”

The Walter family estate.
Hudson had been summoned back, and the second he saw the figure in the living room, his body went rigid.
“Dad? Why are you back from the overseas expansion?”
Bert Walter turned around, his features a mask of cold, uncompromising authority.
“If I didn’t return, the company would be a smoking ruin. I left the Walter Group in your hands, and this is the result?”
Hudson gritted his teeth.
“This was an isolated incident-”
Slap-
Bert delivered a stinging blow across his son’s face without warning.
“You can’t even manage your own house. You’re useless!”
Hudson’s head snapped to the side, red marks blooming on his pale skin.
Bert began to pace the room with his hands behind his back.
“How do you plan to neutralize this threat?”
Hudson kept his head down. “I’m in negotiations with Jade.”
“Negotiations? She’s already taken us to court!”
Bert’s face was a bruised purple of pure rage.
“If she wins, it validates those photos. Do you understand the damage a public adultery scandal will do to our valuation? Shareholders won’t trust a man who can’t even keep his private life quiet.”
Hudson remained silent for a long, heavy ten seconds before finally speaking.
“I will handle the fallout.”
Bert glared at him, a lethal darkness flickering in his eyes.
“I don’t care how you do it. Claim the photos are fakes, say she’s mentally unstable-whatever it takes. Jade cannot wip this case”
“Dad!”
A deep, agonizing scowl formed between Hudson’s brows.
“This isn’t Jade’s fault.”
Bert turned a vicious, icy stare on him.
“If she hadn’t made this a public spectacle, the Group wouldn’t be in the gutter”
Hudson fundamentally disagreed, but he knew arguing would only escalate the violence, so he chose silence.

Bert let out a heavy, disgusted snort.
“Nothing to say? Fine. If you won’t do it, I’ll solve the problem for you.”
“I can handle it!” Hudson said, his eyes snapping open and his fists clenching tight.
