Jade’s voice cracked with emotion. “You let another woman move into our home, our home, Hudson. You let Amara change everything I put in it. If you really saw me as your wife, you would never have done that!”

Her eyes welled up again, a sharp ache building in her nose. “Just admit it, Hudson. You don’t love me.”

“It’s just some decorations. Are you really making such a big deal out of nothing?” Hudson couldn’t understand her perspective. “Amara is just doing it to help Cortney feel more secure in a familiar environment. We can still live here just fine. Why do you have to say such hurtful things?”

“I’m saying hurtful things?” Jade clutched her head, her face twisted in pain. “Who made me this way? When you’re thinking about Amara and her daughter’s feelings, do you ever consider mine for even a second? You give all your smiles and gentleness to them. What about me? What do I even mean to you? You keep calling me Mrs. Walter, but have you ever once actually treated me like your wife?”

Hudson’s frown deepened. “You’re fine. What do you need me to consider?”

Jade looked up sharply at that, unable to stop herself from shouting again. “Amara gets manicures! She has estheticians come to the house! Is she not ‘fine’ too? Me? Where do you get the idea that I’m ‘fine”?”

“Amara does those things to cope with her grief,” Hudson stated coldly, offering no comfort. “You were fine. You’re the one causing drama and making yourself miserable.”

Causing drama? Making yourself miserable? Those few words shattered all of Jade’s pent-up grievances and defenses.

She felt a hysterical mix of wanting to laugh and cry, her emotions so twisted that she wondered if she was really sick.

And through it all, Hudson’s tone had remained utterly calm, like a detached observer watching a madwoman have a breakdown.

Just as her last shred of sanity was about to snap, Jade chose to escape. She was too tired, too drained to keep screaming at him.

She rubbed a hand roughly over her chest, where the pain was suffocating, and reached to open

the car door.

The door only opened a crack before a large hand slammed it shut again.

Then, her wrists were caught.

“Drive,” Hudson ordered the driver.

“Hudson! What are you doing? Let me out! I don’t want to go back with you!” Jade struggled with all her strength.

Hudson pulled her back against him, one hand gripping her wrists, the other pinning her thrashing legs. “I won’t restrict your freedom anymore. That’s my final concession, Jade. Don’t push it.”

Back at the villa, Jade marched quickly ahead, dragging her suitcase, with Hudson following behind.

Rosa was waiting in the living room. The moment she saw Jade, she visibly relaxed and hurried over to take her hand.

“Mrs. Walter! Where did you go? I made lunch and went upstairs to call you, but you were gone. I looked everywhere! I was so scared I called Mr. Walter right away. Thank goodness he found you.”

Jade said nothing for a moment. “Rosa, next time I go out, you don’t need to tell him,” she finally replied flatly.

With that, she grabbed her suitcase and rushed upstairs.

She planned to stay in a guest room, She couldn’t bear another pointless argument with Hudson.

Reaching the top of the stairs, Jade passed the guest room next to the master bedroom and suddenly saw several people in decorating company overalls discussing something inside.

She stopped. “What are you doing in here?” she asked.

Hearing her, the person in charge spoke up, “Ms. Hoyt said she wants to make this room her daughter’s. We’re the interior design studio she hired, We’re here to take measurements and plan the redesign per her request.”

“Her daughter’s room?” Jade let out a hollow laugh.

She looked at the room she had originally intended to be a nursery for her own child. The
