From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 170

Once they reached the Memorial Hall, Jade wrenched her hand away. She turned to leave, but Hudson caught her wrist again, spinning her back around.

"The project," he hissed, his voice cold and sharp. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?"

Jade didn't deny it. "So what if I did?"

Surprisingly, Hudson didn't get angry. Instead, he pulled her into a tight embrace.

"Jade, I knew you still cared about me. But don't ever do that again."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

Jade struggled, but he only held her tighter.

"I didn't see it before, but now I do. Julian Foster is just a tool you're using to make me jealous. That's why you're always with him when I show up. It was all a plan to get my attention, wasn't it?"

Hudson spoke with a sudden, calm confidence.

He'd been unable to read her lately, and he'd genuinely started to fear she was falling for Julian.

The jealousy had driven him to desperate, cruel measures to force her back.

In his mind, as long as she was under his roof, he was still in control.

And Amara's words at the gala had been a revelation for him.

Of course. Jade had loved him since she was a girl. She'd done everything to marry him. How could she just stop loving him overnight?

So, clearly, her friendship with Julian and the recommendation to Harold were all part of a grand scheme to make him notice her, to make him care.

Her coldness lately was just a game of hard-to-get. She was probably thrilled inside that his eyes were finally on her twenty-four-seven.

He had to admit, her plan had worked. She'd outsmarted him.

"You're insane," Jade muttered.

She wondered if Bert's cane had missed his back and hit him in the head. He was talking complete nonsense.

"I know the truth now," Hudson said, his voice dropping to a warm, gentle tone.

"You can deny it all you want, but you still love me."

Jade shoved him away with all her might and turned toward the door.

"Your dad told you to stay on your knees. Stay here and try to fix your brain!"

She left the hall and hailed a cab back to the Grandview Estate.

While Hudson was stuck at the mansion, she was going to find her mother's ashes.

The moment she found them, the only chain Hudson had on her would be broken.

She would take her mother and leave this house, and she wouldn't stay a single second longer than she had to.

The Bluenote Club.

Lyndon Spenser was walking out the front door when someone struck him from behind with a club.

Thud.

His vision went black, and he collapsed.
