From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 248

At the time, he'd trusted Amara implicitly. Combined with his pity for her situation, he'd dismissed Charles's warnings as mere rumors.

But looking back, after everything that had transpired lately, Amara seemed far more calculated than he'd ever allowed himself to believe.

And then there was Jade's parting shot—that absolute, chilling promise of "regret."

Every sign was pointing to a truth about Amara Hoyt that he'd been ignoring.

He needed to know for certain—for himself, and for Jade.

"I'll have the teams dispatched immediately, sir," Kevin replied.

Back at the studio, Jade received a call from Silas.

"Jade, Hudson came to see me earlier. He was asking about you. I suspect he knows we've been in contact. I'm going to have to speed up the sabotage on his project. Make sure you're ready on your end."

"I am. Just tell me what you need, and I'll play my part." Jade tightened her grip on the phone, her knuckles turning white.

"What about my friend? Any news?"

Silas's voice turned heavy. "Nothing yet."

Jade felt her heart plummet. Her voice began to shake.

"Have you looked into Victor Hales? I'm almost certain he's the one who took her."

"We checked. The man has vanished into thin air. There's no trace of him anywhere."

"There has to be another way! In those recordings they keep sending, Jewell is begging for help... the last one, she said she wanted it to end..."

Jade's voice broke into a sob.

"I'm so scared for her, Silas."

Silas let out a soft sigh. "I tracked the ID they're using. They're using international hackers to bounce calls through virtual numbers. The encryption is top-tier. I have some people abroad looking into it, but pinning a location is incredibly difficult."

Jade fought back her tears. "Please, just go faster."

"I will," Silas said before hanging up.

Jade set the phone on the counter and sat on the edge of her bed, pulling her knees to her chest. She felt utterly lost and small.

What...

What did she have to do to save her best friend?

Over the next two days, the anonymous number became a relentless ghost, flooding her phone with recordings, photos, and short video clips of Jewell.
