Chapter 288 The Trace
Chapter 288 The Trace
Katherine lowered her head.
“Yes, sir.”
Bastian sat across from Jade, his movements precise as he began to clean the small wound.
The scent of the sea-clean and vast-filled Jade’s senses, identical to the mysterious depths of Bastian’s eyes.
The ocean was beautiful, but it was also a place of hidden currents and lethal power.
Jade sat on a small stool. Bastian, being so much taller, had to lean down to reach her.
The distance between them vanished; his breath was warm against her skin.
Jade shifted uncomfortably, turning her head. “Katherine already did the heavy lifting, really.”
Bastian finished the task and pulled back just enough to give her air.

“The video of your ex-husband and Forster brawling was leaked on purpose. The narrative was carefully constructed to frame you. I’ve already traced the IP address of the primary influencer account.”
He pulled out his phone and showed her the data.
Jade leaned in to look. The coordinates and account registration all pointed to one person: Amara Hoyt.
She wasn’t surprised. Amara didn’t do “coincidences.”
The woman was a predator who enjoyed the hunt.
Bastian watched her. “How do you want to handle this?”
Jade’s eyes hardened, a cold light reflecting in the amber depths.
“I want a public apology. I want Amara to admit what she did in front of the entire world.”
Bastian leaned back against the chair.
“Do whatever you need to do. I’ll handle the logistics.”
The simple statement brought a profound sense of security to Jade’s chest.
“Thank you.”
Bastian’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Don’t thank me yet. I’ll be collecting my fee later.”
Jade blinked, meeting his gaze. For a second, she felt like she was being pulled into the tide, helpless against the current.
Feeling a strange flutter in her chest, she looked away and stood up.
“I’m going to see if Katherine has that cream yet.”

Bastian watched her go. His phone rang; it was Anderson.

“Howell, you skipped the International Business Summit? That was a $1 billion project on the line. My phone is melting. You better have a damn good reason, or I’m quitting!”
Bastian’s eyebrow arched slightly. “A reason? I had something far more important to attend to.”
He hung up on Anderson’s indignant spluttering.
A second call came through immediately. An elderly woman’s voice spoke in elegant French.
“Howell, you mentioned giving the family heirloom to that girl you’ve been obsessed with since you were a boy? I’ve pulled it from the vault. When are you bringing her to see me?”
Bastian’s expression softened, but he remained cautious. He wouldn’t repeat the mistakes of his predecessors.
“Wait a little longer, Grandma. If I rush her now, I’ll lose her forever.”
Grandview Estate.
Hudson heard about the online chaos and had his team start a covert investigation.
He couldn’t do it openly, or Bert would find another reason to attack Jade.
She was his wife-legal or not. Bert was his father. He was trying to keep the peace while he figured out a way back to her.
“Daddy Hudson!” Cortney’s high, clear voice rang out from the foyer.
Hudson looked up as the little girl, clutching a plush toy, ran toward him.
He opened his arms and scooped her up, tapping her nose with his finger.
“What are you doing here all by yourself? It’s dangerous.”
“Mommy’s out. I was scared, but then I remembered Daddy Hudson was here.” Cortney wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him tight.
“Out of my three daddies, you’re my favorite.”
Hudson froze. “Three daddies?”
“Uh-huh!”
Cortney nodded vigorously, counting on her fingers.
“Daddy Ronald, Daddy Lyndon, and Daddy Hudson!”
Hudson’s blood ran cold. “Amara… she-”
