Chapter 287 Vandalism

Chapter 287 Vandalism

‘You’re all going to jail! I’ve already called the police!”

She zeroed in on the loudest man in the group and lunged, grabbing his jacket and forcing him to look at her.

‘Who sent you?”

The man didn’t flinch. Instead, he looked at her with a self-righteous, sneering disgust.

‘You’ve got a lot of nerve, you little homewrecker! Seducing two powerful men into a street brawl just to show off? I can’t stand women like you. You’re a parasite! Go ahead, call the cops! I’m doing the city a favor by trashing your little den of sin. Are you really going to tell the officers about your disgusting affairs?”

Jade was still reeling from the sheer absurdity of the accusation when someone shoved her hard from the side.

A hand came swinging toward her face. Jade’s instincts took over; she reached out and caught the woman’s wrist in a bone- crushing grip.

She looked up into the bloodshot, manic eyes of Amara.

‘Jade, wasn’t it enough that you almost got Hudson fired by the board? Now you have him brawling with Julian Forster and getting his head smashed in by his father? When is it enough? You’re divorced! Stay the hell away from him before you get him killed! I’m begging you!”

The performance was perfect-the desperate, protective “true love” speaking out. The crowd’s jeering grew louder, the insults sharper.

Jade didn’t let go of Amara’s wrist. Her expression turned to stone as she met Amara’s gaze.

‘I’d like to know, Ms. Hoyt, in what capacity exactly is a mistress lecturing me on morality?”

Amara’s face twisted. She struggled to break free, but Jade held fast.

“Mistress? You have some nerve, you lying b*tch!”

Jade’s voice dropped to a chilling whisper. “I still have the photos of you and Hudson in bed on my phone. Should I project them onto the wall for your ‘supporters’ to see?”

Amara froze, her eyes darting around. She didn’t dare look Jade in the eye.

“Let me go!”

Just then, a dozen black-clad security guards rounded the corner at a run, swarming the protesters and pushing them back.

Katherine, the doctor, pushed through the crowd and reached Jade, looking frantic.

“Ms. Merchant! Are you hurt? Talk to me!”

Jade gave Amara’s wrist one last squeeze-a sharp “Ah!” of pain escaping the woman-before letting go. She turned to Katherine.

“I’m fine. Round these people up. Find out exactly who paid them to be here.”

“On it,” Katherine said.

Amara stumbled back, her face flickering with a momentary panic. Seeing the guards taking control, she slipped into the shadows and vanished around the corner.

“Katherine.” Jade had seen her leave. She was certain Amara was the architect of this chaos.

“Have two of your men follow her. Don’t lose her.”

Katherine signaled, and two professional shadows detached themselves from the group and followed Amara silently.

The situation was quickly neutralized. The guards began the grim task of cleaning the red paint from the glass.

Jade stared at the stained pavement, the echoes of the crowd’s twisted logic playing in her head. She felt a profound, bone-deep exhaustion.

“Is it really a crime to say no to someone?”

“Absolutely not,” Katherine said, resting a steadying hand on Jade’s shoulder.

“People who judge a book by a doctored cover aren’t worth your time. Their opinions carry zero weight.”

Jade offered a small, hollow smile. “I suppose you’re right.”

As they talked, Katherine noticed a thin red line on Jade’s cheek. She frowned.

“Ms. Merchant, your face! You’re bleeding. Let’s get you inside and clean that up.”

“Amara must have caught me with a fingernail,” Jade said, reaching up to touch it. Katherine caught her hand.
