Chapter 294 The Apology

Chapter 294 The Apology

“Jade, can you just stop for one second?” Hudson asked, his voice carrying a note of reproach.

He’d fought so hard for an excuse to see her. He just wanted a normal conversation.

But the woman who used to be so soft and yielding now had a wall of thorns around her, and she didn’t care if he bled.

“I assume you’re done, then.” Jade set her glass down and called into the hallway.

“Sarah, show our guest out.”

Sarah appeared immediately. Hudson, realizing he was about to be kicked out, finally got to the point.

‘Amara told me about the settlement. I’m here to pay the $500,000.”

Jade nodded and slid her phone across the table with a bank account number.

‘Five hundred thousand. Wire it now.”

Hudson didn’t hesitate. He made the transfer on the spot. Jade checked the confirmation-the money was there-and stood up to head back to the workshop.

‘Jade.” Hudson stood up and caught her wrist.

‘I need to talk to you.”

lade looked down at his hand, then met his dark, ink-well eyes. She pulled her arm back.

‘Speak.”

Hudson looked at her cold expression and thinned his lips. He led her toward the back garden.

The wind was blowing, tossing Jade’s hair across her face. A few strands brushed against Hudson, carrying her scent.

His throat tightened. He stepped closer.

lade immediately backed away.

‘Well?”

Hudson stood his ground. He took a breath and spoke.

‘I’m keeping Amara close for a reason. I’m investigating Ronald’s death. The payoff for the damages was just to keep her guard down. Don’t read into it.”

Jade gave him a look of genuine surprise. It had taken him three years, but he’d finally caught a lead. Still…

“What does that have to do with me?”

Seeing her turn to leave again, Hudson snatched her back, staring down at her. He was losing his patience with her detachment.

“Can’t you hear me? I’m explaining myself! We’ve had enough misunderstandings, Jade. I don’t want any more lies between us.”

Jade let out a short, sharp laugh. She yanked her hand away.

‘Hudson, are you serious? We’re divorced. Lies, truth, misunderstandings… none of it matters anymore. The only thing I want from you is for you to stop showing up and disrupting my life. That would be the best ‘explanation’ you could give me.”

‘But you said you’d give me a chance!” Hudson barked, his hands coming down on her shoulders.

‘I don’t ever want to hear the word ‘divorce’ from you again.”

‘When did I ever say that?”

lade struggled in his grip, her anger mounting. She met his eyes with a cold, dead stare.

‘The decree is signed. It’s a fact. You-”

The word “divorce” was the final spark for Hudson’s rage. He didn’t let her finish; he leaned in and crushed his lips against hers.

slap-

Jade’s hand came up in a blur, hitting his cheek with a resounding crack. She used the shock to shove him away.

‘Get out! Don’t you ever come back here! I never want to see your face again!”

Hudson ran his tongue over his teeth. Jade didn’t pull her punches; his cheek was already starting to sting.

.ogically, he should have been furious. But the taste of blood in his mouth felt familiar, grounding. He almost felt a surge of nostalgic excitement..

Jade was horrified that he had no reaction at all. He just stood there, staring at her with an intense, predatory hunger.

She felt her skin crawl. She turned to run back inside, but he caught her from behind, pulling her into a hug.

‘I’m handling the Amara situation. Just wait for me.”

Jade moved to break the hold, but Hudson let go first.

‘Are you deaf or something, Hudson? We’re divorced! No more relations!”

He gave her one long, unreadable look before turning and walking away.

Back in his Maybach, he called his grandfather.

“Grandpa. Your 70th birthday is coming up in two days, isn’t it?”
