Chapter 301 The Payoff
Chapter 301 The Payoff
“Who’s bullying her? Look at this disaster! She’s the one who-”
“Oh? Did Jade do all this?” Bastian cut him off, sounding unbothered.
“If the furniture is ruined and the floor is a mess, then it’s our responsibility. We’ll pay.”

He snapped his fingers. Two guards entered carrying four heavy briefcases, which they clicked open to reveal stacks of crisp hundred-dollar bills.
“Is this enough?” Bastian’s lips curled into a dry, mocking smile. Before Bert could speak, he gestured to the guards.
“Go on. Give Mr. Chairman his compensation.”
The guards stepped forward, hoisted the cases, and turned them over. A rain of cash flooded the foyer, fluttering over the expensive rugs and the debris of the dinner.
Bert Walter stared at the scene, his face turning a bruised shade of purple.
In his entire life, with his status and power, no one had ever had the audacity to throw money at him.
It was an insult.
It was the ultimate, cold-blooded humiliation.
Bert’s fists shook as the blood pressure spiked. His vision blurred, his mind unable to process the disgrace. He swayed and collapsed backward.
“Bert!”
“Uncle Bert!”
“Chairman!”
The relatives erupted in a chorus of panicked screams.
Bastian watched the fallout and let out a soft, dismissive tch. Fainting after two sentences? His constitution is as weak as his morals.
He didn’t care. He kept his arm around Jade and led her toward the exit.
Hudson, who had been watching the entire exchange with a darkening expression, stepped in to block their path. He glared at Bastian with pure hostility.
“Who the hell are you? What are you to Jade?”
Bastian tilted his chin up, meeting Hudson’s stare with an air of effortless superiority.
“Didn’t I make it clear? Jade belongs with me now. Is there a problem with a man looking after his own?”
Hudson ground his teeth, his eyes fixed on the hand resting on Jade’s shoulder. He wanted to rip it off, but he forced himself to stay steady.

“Jade is my wife. She doesn’t need protection from a stranger!”

Bastian let out a sharp laugh. He glanced at the weeping Walter relatives, then back at Hudson, his eyes glinting with cold steel.
“Setting aside the fact that she’s already divorced you… even when she was your wife, did you ever protect her once?”
The words were a claim of ownership, spoken as if Jade were his most prized possession.
Hudson’s brow knit into a jagged line. Rage flared in his chest; he wanted to snatch Jade back right then and there.
But he looked at Bastian again and hesitated.
Bastian didn’t look like a common player. He radiated a world-class authority.
In the three years of their marriage, Jade had spent her days in the villa, gardening and doing housework. She’d had no opportunity to meet someone like this.
And knowing Jade, she wasn’t the type to have a secret affair just to spite him.
In a heartbeat, Hudson adjusted his perspective. He looked at Jade.
“Jade, is this some actor you hired just to get a rise out of me?”
Jade’s brow furrowed. She opened her mouth to speak, but Bastian cut in, his voice dripping with bored contempt.
“Since Mr. Walter is such a devoted son, shouldn’t he be checking on his father’s pulse?”
Hudson heard the mockery but had no comeback.
He ignored Bastian, his gaze locked on Jade.
“It’s chaos in there. I have to manage the family first. I’ll come to the studio later tonight.”
Besides, if Jade went back inside now, the relatives would tear her apart. It wasn’t the time.
Jade’s frown deepened. Since when did I invite him to come over?
Before she could find the words, Bastian cupped her face and physically turned her head away from Hudson.
“Don’t look at him.”
