Hudson was a man of immense pride. He wasn’t going to force his way into a woman’s shop like a common thug.
He gave the interior one last longing look, his gaze searching for a silhouette that never appeared. He backed away and climbed into his car.
But he didn’t leave. He pulled into a secluded spot down the block, rolled the window down, and lit a cigarette, keeping his eyes fixed on the studio entrance.
Inside, Sarah hurried to the office to report the victory.
Jade laughed. “Good. If he comes back, do the same thing.”
Sarah beamed and headed back to her desk.
Left alone, Jade turned back to her orders. But she’d only been working for a few minutes when her phone rang. It was Southhill Memorial Park.
“Ms. Merchant? Regarding the arrangements for your mother’s remains… our staff found a hand-engraved baby locket that was supposed to be interred with the ashes. It seems it was left out during the final processing. We need you to come and verify the item immediately.”
Jade’s face went pale. She stood up so fast her chair screeched. “How could a professional facility make such a bush-league mistake?”
The clerk was apologetic. “We’re incredibly sorry, ma’am. It was a lapse in oversight. If you could just come down and sign for the item, we’ll make it right.”
Jade’s mind was a mess of grief and anxiety. She grabbed her keys and sprinted for the door.
She drove like a woman possessed, reaching the Memorial Park office in record time. She pushed through the doors, looking for the staff, but as she reached the counter, someone lunged from the shadows. A fine mist was sprayed into her face.
The chemical stench hit her lungs, and before she could even scream, the world tilted. Her knees buckled, and she slid to the floor. unconscious.
Two burly men emerged from the corner. They grabbed her limp body and dragged her toward a storage shed at the back of the property.
Inside the shed, the lead thug was on his phone, watching as the others dumped Jade onto a pile of old tarps.
He looked down at her beautiful, pale face and let out a greasy, disgusting laugh.
“We have her.”
“Yes, ma’am. Crystal clear.”
“Don’t you worry. We have the cameras set up. Professional gear. I’ll make sure the video captures every single detail of the ‘encounter’ I’ll send the file straight to your phone when we’re done.”
On the other side of Southhill, Hudson’s Maybach was parked at the curb.

Chapter 304 The Lure
He’d smoked two cigarettes and Jade still hadn’t come out of the office. Sensing something was wrong, he crushed the butt, threw the door open, and marched into the facility.
Inside the lobby.
A man and a woman were sitting at a desk, laughing and sharing a cup of coffee.
Bam-
Hudson kicked the door open. The staff jumped, staring at him in shock.
They saw his aura and their smiles vanished. They looked at each other, then back at him, their expressions turning fawning.
“Sir? Can we help you?
“We can get you the brochure for our premium plots-”
Hudson didn’t let them finish. His gaze was like a razor. “The woman in the white silk dress who just came in. Where is she?”
The staff’s expressions shifted instantly. They looked at each other again, their eyes darting away. They looked down, playing dumb.
“Silk dress? We haven’t seen anyone like that.”
“Yeah, sir. We’ve been alone all—”
Hudson’s hand shot out, seizing the man by the throat. The sentence ended in a choked gasp.
“Speak.”
Hudson saw the guilt in their eyes. He tightened his grip, his fingers digging into the man’s skin, and slammed the man’s head onto the desk with a sickening thud.
“Give me the truth. Lie to me again and you won’t leave this room.”
The man’s face went purple as he clawed at Hudson’s hand, but the power was overwhelming. He was pinned like a butterfly to a board. A series of wheezing gasps escaped his throat.
