“Two hours ago… a woman called us. She asked us to check if Jade Merchant had buried anything with her mother. She… she paid us $10,000 to look.”
Hudson’s brow knit. “Jade buried something with her mother? What was it?”
“A silver baby locket,” the man wheezed. “Custom-engraved. For a newborn.”
A baby locket?
Boom-
Hudson felt as if a bolt of lightning had struck him. His heart felt like it was being crushed by a sledgehammer. A wave of agonizing pain washed over him, the taste of copper filling his mouth.
He had always believed Jade aborted the child to be “free” of him.
He had hated her for her perceived coldness. He had nursed a bitter resentment for months because of that loss.

He never knew that Jade was the one who had wanted that child more than anyone.
The locket was the proof.
She had planned for a life for that baby. She had wanted it to live a hundred years.
He couldn’t even imagine the agony she must have felt when she was forced to let go.
And what had he done?
He’d believed Amara’s lies. He’d spit venom at her.
lade had loved him, but the more she loved him, the deeper the betrayal must have felt when he sided against her own child.
f he hadn’t used her mother’s ashes as a weapon-if he had just been a man and protected her-she might have given them a
hance.
But he’d failed. He’d failed at everything…
fudson’s eyes were a terrifying, bloodshot red. The man on the floor began to scramble back.
Sir! I told you everything! Please… let me go!”
The plea hit Hudson’s frayed nerves like a match to gasoline. He looked down at the man and delivered a brutal kick to his ribs.
‘You have no conscience! For ten grand, you’d sell out anyone?!”
The man hit the wall with a thud. Hudson moved to kick him again.
‘You’re all going to pay! If a hair on her head is touched, I’ll bury the both of you with her!”
The man curled into a ball, blood leaking from his nose and mouth.

Kevin arrived with a team of security guards. He saw the wreckage and his face went pale. He rushed to grab Hudson’s arm.
“Sir! Sir, stop! We need to find the Madam first! Focus on finding her!”

At the mention of Jade, Hudson’s sanity returned. He pulled his leg back, his fingers trembling as he reached into his jacket for a cigarette. He lit it with shaking hands.
“Find out where she is. Now. I need a minute.”
Kevin nodded. “Yes, sir.”
Five minutes later.
With the threat of Hudson’s wrath hanging over them, the staff broke easily. Kevin emerged from the back room.
“Sir, they confessed. They took the $10,000 to confirm the locket’s existence. Then, on the woman’s orders, they called the Malam and told her the locket had been missed to lure her here. They were ordered to leave the area for half an hour. They don’t know what happened in the shed.”
