Hudson Walter hung up, his face a mask of cold, concentrated fury. He turned to Kevin.

“This area is desolate. We’re miles from any major hub. They couldn’t have gone far in thirty minutes. Their people must be close. Scour every building in the perimeter.”

Kevin gave a sharp nod. “Our teams are already fanning out, sir.”

Hudson gave a curt response, but his grip on his phone was so tight the casing groaned. The veins on the back of his hand stood out like corded wire, a physical manifestation of his vanishing patience.

He remembered the day Jade’s mother’s ashes were destroyed. Jade had screamed that Amara had done it on purpose.

He had interrogated Cortney about it afterward. The girl had claimed it was an accident, and before he could press for details, Amara had slapped her.

Cortney’s hysterical sobbing had stopped the questioning then. He had felt a wave of pity and let it go.

But looking at the wreckage of his life now, he had to face a terrifying possibility: that innocent child had been nothing but a pawn for Amara’s malice.

She had used the girl to cover for the deaths of Lyndon and Ronald…

The more the truth surfaced, the more Hudson realized the depth of the deception.

Amara was no longer the girl he remembered from his youth.

Kevin watched him from the side before finally speaking up.

“Sir, why didn’t you just demand the Ma’am’s location from Amara directly over the phone?”

Hudson looked at him, his gaze dark and hollow. “Do you really think she’d give me a straight

answer?”

The coldness in his voice was a physical weight.

“Amara is a predator. Until I have the evidence to bury her, she’ll never admit to a single sin.”

Kevin went silent, unable to find a rebuttal. He felt a sudden, heavy surge of pity for his boss.

Hudson had trusted Amara implicitly.

He had burned his marriage and fought with his wife for that woman, only for Jade to eventually cut him out of her life entirely.

And now, every sign pointed to that trust being a catastrophic mistake.

He wondered if Hudson regretted the day he’d ever opened his doors to the Hoyt family.

Metamorphosis Studio.

Bastian Hamlet walked through the door, carrying a box of artisan pastries. He scanned the rooms for Jade.

But after walking the entire floor, she was nowhere to be found. He headed toward Sarah Galbraith’s office.

“Where is your boss?”

Sarah looked up from a stack of spreadsheets, adjusting her glasses as she thought back.

“Ms. Merchant got a call about an hour ago and rushed out.”

The relaxed look on Bastian’s face vanished instantly.

“Did she say where she was going?”

Sarah remembered the name clearly. “Southhill Memorial Park. She didn’t say why, just that it was urgent.”

Bastian’s eyes darkened. He set the pastries on a nearby desk and turned for the door, pulling his phone out.

“I need a tactical team at Southhill Memorial Park. Now.”

Jade would never go to the cemetery alone without a reason.

The premonition of danger was a cold knot in his stomach. He was already planning for the

The Storage Shed.

Jade drifted back to consciousness through a haze of chemical fumes and muffled whispers.

The first things she saw were several broad-shouldered men pacing the small space.

They were dressed like street thugs, their arms covered in dark tattoos, their expressions devoid of any kindness.

As they moved, a small cleared area in the center of the shed came into view. There was a thick white mat on the floor, and two professional cameras on tripods were aimed directly at it.
