Hudson stopped walking. His expression was dark and unreadable, his grip around her waist tightening.

He lowered his head, his eyes fixed on her glassy, unfocused stare. The warmth of her breath against his neck made his voice drop to a raspy whisper.

Jade stared back at him with pure loathing. Even through the fog of the drug, the thought of him touched her made her stomach turn.

She would rather burn alive than use him as an “antidote.”

When she realized what he’d done, she raised her hand to strike him again. He caught her wrist, pinning it against his chest as he pressed a hot, wet kiss into the palm of her hand.

“Are you insane?” Jade shrieked, pulling her hand back as if he’d burned her. She couldn’t believe this was the same composed, cold man she’d married.

He looked unhinged. He looked dangerous.

She realized then that she couldn’t fight him physically. She took a breath and tried to sound

rational.

“Hudson, please. Just set me down. Let’s talk about this.”

Hudson tilted her chin up, a cruel, mocking smile on his lips. His eyes were like flint.

“You don’t want me? Then who do you want? Julian? That other guy?”

Jade froze, her lashes fluttering with anxiety. “I want-”

“I’m telling you now, Jade-anything I decide to give you, you aren’t allowed to refuse!” Hudson snarled, his hand tightening on her jaw as he moved to crush his lips against hers.

Jade whipped her head to the side, his kiss landing on her cheek.

Hudson’s rage boiled over. He pinned her against the side of the car, forcing her body into his.

He moved to try again.
