Jade looked at Hudson in sheer disbelief.

“Are you saying I deliberately brought up Amara in front of my family, which made Robert hate her enough to attack her?”

“Is that not what happened?” Hudson countered.

Jade swayed on her feet, the heavy accusation making her ears ring violently.

She braced herself against the edge of the bed, taking a full ten seconds to find her voice again.

When she finally spoke, her voice was terribly hoarse, and thick tears rolled from her eyes, splashing onto the back of her hand.

“Hudson, even if you didn’t know before, couldn’t you see how awfully Robert and his mother treated me at the police station? Are you blind? Robert looks down on me. Even if I did say something, do you really think he’d give a d’mn about my opinion? Besides, I didn’t say a single word. What gives you the right to pin this on me?”

She wiped her tears fiercely. Her voice grew rougher, her throat tightening so much that she choked on her own sobs, unable to speak for a moment.

“You’ve never cared about me, and you don’t even trust me. If you despise me this much, then divorce me! Why won’t you sign the divorce papers? Tell me, why won’t you let me go!”

Hudson gripped Jade’s shoulders. Feeling her slight tremors beneath his palms, he softened his tone.

“If it wasn’t you, just explain it to me. Why are you getting so worked up?”

“Heb-”

Jade let out a cold laugh and slapped his hands away.

“Explain? Hudson, ask yourself-do you really want an explanation? If you trusted me from the start, would you even be interrogating me like this?”

She stared coldly into Hudson’s eyes, as if trying to see right through his soul.

“You don’t want an explanation at all. You just think Amara was wronged, so you’re desperate to catch me making a mistake so you can force me to apologize to her!”

Hudson didn’t bother denying it.

“Regardless, Robert attacked her because of you. You and Amara are living under the same roof, and her mental state is already fragile right now. She’s incredibly insecure, so you really should apologize to her”

Jade couldn’t stop laughing, laughing so hard that tears welled up in the corners of her eyes.

She wiped the tears away, her gaze turning completely frosty
