Chapter 45 Crossed Lines

Hudson’s eyes darkened, while Amara’s body involuntarily leaned closer against him.

“Hudson, Cortney and I have lived here for quite a while now, but Jade still seems to completely despise us.”

As Amara leaned closer, the scent of her perfume drifted straight into Hudson’s nose.

Compared to the naturally sweet scent that Jade carried, this perfume was noticeably sharp and cloying.

Hudson’s brows furrowed slightly as he gently pushed Amara’s tilted shoulder to stand her upright.

Hudson shoved Amara away forcefully, his gaze instantly turning freezing and sharp.

‘Amara, do you have any idea what you’re doing right now?”

Falling hard onto the floor, it was as if Amara finally snapped out of her trance. She covered her face in sheer horror.

I’m sorry I’m so sorry, Hudson: I… I don’t know what came over me! Maybe Ronald’s death was just… too huge of a blow for me. I was just so desperate to find… to find a reliable shoulder to lean on, so I completely lost my mind and said those awful things.”

As she spoke, her voice choked up. Tears cascaded down her face, and her shoulders shook violently from her sobbing

“Besides, you… you already have such an amazing wife like Jade! Saying things like that how does that make me any different from a filthy homewrecker destroying your mantage? I’m absolute trash!”

“Amara, don’t spiral like this. Calm down.”

Hudson’s eyes gradually softened, and he spoke in a warm, comforting tone.

“I know you’re not that kind of person. Let’s just pretend tonight never happened. Stop beating yourself up over it.”

Before Amara had even come to him for help, she was already showing serious signs of depression. He really shouldn’t have shoved her so violently and triggered her already fragile emotional state.

Amara suddenly scrambled up from the floor and threw herself directly into his arms.

Hudson instinctively went to push her away, but the very next second, he heard her sobbing into his chest.

Hudson’s movements abruptly froze. After hesitating for two agonizing seconds, the hand meant to push her away slowly settled onto her shoulder instead.

“I won’t push you away. Stop crying.”

Standing in the dark hallway, Jade watched the entire scene unfold. Pinching her palm, she looked away with a completely expressionless face.

She silently reminded herself:

Never expect a single thing from Hudson ever again.

Without expectations, there would be no more pain…

Jade returned to her room and securely locked the door.

Her phone, sitting on the bedside table, suddenly began to vibrate.

She picked it up and saw it was Anthony calling.

“Boss? Calling me this late… is something wrong?”

Anthony’s clear, smooth voice echoed from the other end of the line.

“Jade, there’s an antique restoration exchange gala at the Apex Hotel tomorrow night. I managed to secure a spot for you. You absolutely must attend. I’ll arrange for an acquaintance to show you the ropes.”

An acquaintance?

Assuming he meant one of the other two restorers from the studio, Jade smiled and agreed.

“I will definitely be there on time tomorrow night. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity, boss.”

Anthony said something incredibly cryptic.

Jade froze slightly. She was just about to ask what he meant when Anthony continued.

“I have some things to wrap up on my end, so I’ll hang up now. I’ll text you the exact time and location shortly.”

Swallowing her confusion, Jade simply replied.

“Okay.”
