Chapter 49 Green-Eyed Monster

Jade was slightly overwhelmed by the invitation and quickly replied.

“I’ve just become your apprentice, so meeting your wife is only right. I’ll be there in two days to pay my respects.”

Edward’s face was one giant smile.

“Excellent. We’ll be waiting for you.”

Jade got out of the car and stood by the door to wave goodbye.

“Master, Mr. Mitchell, I’m home. Please drive safely.”

Anthony rolled down his window. “Stop calling me ‘Mr. Mitchell’ or whatever.”

Jade blinked, confused.

“Why?”

‘Because I’m also my father’s apprentice.”

Anthony jerked his thumb toward the back seat.

‘You should be calling me ‘Brother Anthony”.”

Jade realized his point and gave him a bright, genuine smile.

‘Brother Anthony.”

Anthony’s lips quirked into a smirk.

Get inside.”

lade waved at both of them.

Master, Anthony, bye!”

Anthony waved back, rolled up the window, and pulled away from the curb.

lade watched the taillights fade, then walked toward the front door with a light, rhythmic step.

But the moment she saw Hudson sitting in the living room, surrounded by files, her mood crashed, and her steps turned heavy.

She had no intention of acknowledging him. She treated him like invisible air and kept walking.

As she passed the sofa, heavy, aggressive footsteps echoed behind her. Her heart hammered. Before she could react, her wrist was caught in a vice grip, and she was yanked around.

‘You hate the sight of me that much?”

Jade struggled with all her might, but his grip was like iron.

“Hudson, what the hell is wrong with you now?”

Hudson gripped her wrist tighter, crowding into her personal space.

“Where were you tonight?”

Jade knit her brows and leaned back, repulsed by his proximity.

‘None of your business!”

Hudson squeezed his eyes shut. All he could see was the image of her walking in with a happy smile-a smile that died the second he saw him.

“hat smile used to belong only to him.

The thought made his grip tighten even further.

Jade, don’t forget-we’re married. As your husband, I have every right to know your whereabouts!”

ade’s wrist was throbbing, but she refused to show pain. She met his gaze with icy defiance.

You never let me ask where you were going. What gives you the right to interrogate me now?”

ludson’s face was a mask of cold fury as he lowered his voice to a dangerous growl.

Why are you hiding it? Do you have a guilty conscience?”

ade snapped, “Guilty about what?”

You tell me.” Hudson clamped his other hand around her waist.

If there’s nothing going on between you and whoever dropped you off, why the secrecy?”

ade shoved him away with a burst of strength and slapped him hard across the face.

he was shaking with rage, her eyes rimmed with red as she glared at him.

Don’t project your own filth onto me. Not everyone is as repulsive as you and Amara!”

he could handle his coldness and his insults.

But Edward and Anthony were honorable men. She wouldn’t let him drag them into the gutter.

Judson’s cheek stung. He pressed his tongue against the inside of his jaw, his eyes dark and ominous.

‘I mention one person, and you hit me?”

Jade clenched her fists. “You protect Amara, so why can’t I defend the people I care about?”

‘The people you care about?”

Hudson’s face turned a lethal shade of blue. He grabbed her shoulders, his grip hard enough to feel like he was crushing bone.

“Jade, I’m asking you one last time. Who drove you home?”

Jade spat back, “Why should I tell you?”

“You-”

Enraged, Hudson’s hand flew up instinctively.

Jade saw the movement but didn’t flinch. She tilted her chin up, exposing her throat.

“Go ahead. Hit me. Give me back that slap.”

Meeting her stubborn, fearless gaze, Hudson drew a sharp breath. His raised hand slowly dropped to his side.

“I don’t hit women.”

Jade didn’t say another word. She gave him one final, cold look and walked away.

Hudson watched her go, his expression a blank mask of repressed fury.

“Hudson.”

Amara appeared in the living room like a ghost.

“You and Jade-”

Her voice died in her throat when she saw the red fingermarks on his face.

When she spoke again, her voice was dripping with fake concern.

“Hudson, your face… did she do that? She’s out of control. Why can’t she just talk like a civilized person? Wait here, I’ll get some ice.”

She hurried to the kitchen, but when she tried to touch his face with the ice pack, he jerked away.
