From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 50

Chapter 50 A Night of Fire and Ice

“I’m fine. Don’t bother. Go to bed.”

With that, Hudson turned and strode into his study.

Amara stood there, the ice pack freezing her fingers as she watched the door slam shut.

Only when her fingertips started to ache from the cold did her gentle mask slip, replaced by a dark, twisted expression.

This was the first time since her return that Hudson had been so cold and dismissive toward her.

The tide was turning. She couldn’t let this continue.

She had to find a way to get Jade out of this house, permanently.

Jade took a shower and was toweling her hair when a pair of arms wrapped around her waist, pinning her against the wall.

She froze. Before she could scream, his mouth crashed down on hers.

He stole the very air from her lungs. Her head spun, and a flush of heat crept into the corners of her eyes.

When she felt a sudden chill against her skin, her mind snapped back to reality.

She managed to grab his forearms.

“Hudson.”

Hudson let out a low, predatory hum.

“Hmm?”

“Don’t-”

Before she could finish, he scooped her up. A second later, she hit the soft mattress, and his heavy, muscular body followed, sealing her lips again.

That cedar-and-wood scent overwhelmed her. Once, it had felt like heaven; now, it felt like a trap.

She instinctively protected her abdomen, shaking her head to avoid his kiss.

“No, Hudson… you can’t touch me!”

The pregnancy was too fragile. She couldn’t risk any intimacy.

Her rejection only fueled Hudson’s rage. He grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him.

“Didn’t you say I was impotent this morning? Let’s test that theory right now.”

Jade turned her face away, her heart racing for the baby’s safety. Tears spilled onto the pillow, and her voice turned into a desperate plea.

“You can’t… please, don’t do this. Hudson, I’m begging you, leave me alone…”

Hudson let out a dark, mocking laugh. The image of her stepping out of that Bentley, talking about someone she “cared about,” made him lose all restraint.

“Jade, not only can I touch you, I’m the only one who ever will. Don’t you dare have thoughts about anyone else, or I can’t guarantee what I’ll do.”

Jade’s eyes were bloodshot with fury. She reached up and scratched his chest.

“You’re a monster!”

Hudson didn’t want to hear her voice.

He descended again, silencing her with a brutal kiss, his fingers igniting fires all over her skin.

Jade fought until her strength was gone.

With her flushed cheeks and tear-stained eyes, she looked incredibly alluring. Hudson’s desire surged, and he gripped her waist even tighter.

She struggled until everything turned to static, and she finally lost consciousness, sinking into a deep, exhausted sleep.

The next morning.

The sun was high when Jade finally woke up. She sat up, bracing her aching lower back.

This was the master bedroom, not her guest room.

“Mrs. Walter.”

Rosa appeared in the doorway, looking at her with a knowing, motherly smile.

“Rough night? What can I get you for breakfast? I’ll make whatever you want.”

Jade tried to respond, but her throat was too parched to make a sound.

She looked at the nightstand and saw her usual cup, half-full of water.

It was still lukewarm. She took a sip, and once the burning in her throat subsided, she spoke.

“I’d like some clam chowder.”

As she spoke, her hand instinctively drifted to her stomach, gently stroking it.

No pain. No cramping.

But she needed a hospital visit to be sure. She planned to go immediately after breakfast.

Rosa beamed.

“Of course. I’ll make you a bowl of creamy clam chowder. How does that sound?”
