“You can’t force a heart to love. Three years ago, I was the one who shamelessly insisted on marrying Hudson, soll accept whatever I’ve suffered during this time. Now, I just want a divorce. For the sake of the life I saved for you back then… please, help me one more time…”
“Sigh-”
John let out another heavy sigh, pacing the room with his hands behind his back.
“Divorce is no small matter. I’ve always seen you as my own granddaughter-in-law, and Hudson is my flesh and blood. You’re putting me in a terrible spot, child. I don’t know what to do!”
“Grandpa!”
Jade grabbed his sleeve, crying.
“I’m only begging you because I have no other way. Please, help me, Grandpa!”
Seeing her so miserable, John couldn’t bear it and pulled her up.
‘Don’t panic. Give me some time. Let me think about it properly.”
John didn’t give a flat refusal, which meant there was still hope. Jade gripped his sleeve like it was a lifeline.
‘Grandpa, please… you have to help me. You’re the only one who can.”
After a few more minutes in the chapel, Jade walked out.
As she reached the door, her wrist was suddenly jerked, and she was pulled into the side corridor.
‘Where are you going?”
Jade looked up into Hudson’s dark, brooding face.
Strangely enough, she thought she saw a flicker of unease in his eyes.
Adelusion, probably?
After all, how could someone as cold and arrogant as Hudson Walter feel uneasy?
lade wrenched her hand free and stepped back.
Where I go is my business. I don’t owe you an explanation.”
dudson pressed in, his tall frame looming over her like a dark cloud.
I’ll say it again. I do not agree to a divorce.”
Jade held her body rigid.
‘Then I’ll tell you this: I’d rather die than stay married to you!”

With their breath entangling, Jade stared at the handsome face inches from her own and lost herself for a split second. Then she reacted, turning her head as his cool lips brushed against her cheek.
Thud-
Jade shoved him away with a burst of strength, wiping her cheek where he’d touched her.
‘Grandpa wants you inside.”
Dropping those words, she turned and ran.
Hudson moved to chase after her, but John’s voice echoed from the chapel first.
‘Hudson, get in here.”
Hudson watched Jade’s silhouette grow distant. He clenched his fist, then slowly let go, striding into the chapel.
The moment he stepped inside, a slap caught him across the face.
‘You fool! You said bringing Amara into the house wouldn’t affect your relationship with Jade. Is this what you call ‘no effect’?”
Hudson’s head snapped to the side, red fingermarks blooming on his pale skin.
He pressed his tongue against his inner jaw and turned back with a blank expression.
“I handled it poorly. It’s my fault.”
“You-”
John pointed at him, looking like he wanted to scream at his grandson’s thick-headedness. Finally, he just dropped his han put it behind his back.
He paced twice before speaking again.
“I heard everything you two said in the courtyard. If I hadn’t heard it, I wouldn’t have known how much that girl has suffered!”
Hudson’s lips were pressed tight.
“My mistake. I shouldn’t have oversimplified things.”
“Yes, you think you know everything.”
John slammed his hand on the table.
“So tell me, now that Jade wants a divorce, what is your plan?”
Hudson’s tone was firm. “I won’t divorce her.”
