Hudson’s throat tightened, his eyes darkening.

“She’s just being difficult right now. I can’t just let her have her way.”

“You think she doesn’t really want a divorce? You think she’s just throwing a tantrum?”

“Isn’t she?”

I’ve given her a perfect life. Her mother is gone, and her father’s new family has no room for her. She won’t actually leave me. Running to you is just her way of forcing me to compromise.”

“Whether you married her to spite Amara for choosing Ronald back then, or for some other reason, Jade is a good girl and she saved my old life. I won’t let you keep hurting her!”

John paused, his gaze turning deeper.

“If you keep this up, not only will people laugh at us, but your relationship will rot. If that’s the case, it’s better to just end it now. Go your separate ways and never look back.”

“No!”

Hudson instinctively recoiled from that possibility. He couldn’t describe the feeling in his chest, but he spoke with cold logic.

Jade is sensible and easy to manage. She listens to me. Plus, she loves me; she wouldn’t do anything to hurt me or the company. No one is better suited to be Mrs. Walter. I won’t let her divorce me.”

John patted his shoulder.

“If you really don’t want to lose her, then think hard. Change the way you treat her. I’ll stall things on her end for now, but if you let her lose all hope, then not even I will be able to help you!”
