Chapter 63 The Storm Gathers

“Uh…”

Charles rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

“Yeah, I guess you could put it that way.”

The restless frustration in Hudson’s chest seemed to evaporate at that answer. The corner of his mouth quirked up in a barely perceptible smirk.

“I see what you mean.”

Charles looked at him, baffled. “See what?”

Hudson didn’t answer. He turned and strode toward the elevator.

“It’s late. Go get some sleep.”

Jade had to go to the studio the next day. Jewell had the day off. Jade woke up early and made breakfast for both of them, leaving a note on the table for Jewell before grabbing her bag and heading out.

Today was the day she was visiting her master and his wife.

She’d managed to squeeze in a trip to the mall two days ago to buy their gifts and had left them at the studio so she could take them straight there after work.

Anthony hadn’t been around much lately, so she’d been handling most things under Edward Mitchell’s guidance.

Seeing Anthony at the studio that morning actually came as a surprise to her.

“Anthony, Master said you’ve been buried in work. What are you doing here today?”

Fatigue was etched into Anthony’s face as he rubbed the back of his neck. He looked at her and

offered a tired smile.

“I have been. I’ve been flying overseas with my mom to handle company business. But honestly, I’m only getting this break because of you. She and my dad set up this meeting with you today, right? She cleared her schedule and flew back early, so I get to catch my breath.”

“Wait, really?”

She froze, her fingers nervously picking at her palm.

“Master mentioned she had some free time. I didn’t realize she was clearing her schedule for me. I hope I’m not causing problems.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Anthony said. “There was just a minor issue at the factory that’s almost resolved. Just some final paperwork. We can finish it in a few days anyway.”

Jade noticed the dark circles under his eyes and pressed her lips together.

“You should go grab some sleep in your office.”

Anthony scrubbed a hand over his tired face.

“Yeah. Call me when it’s time to head to my place this afternoon. We’ll go together.”

“I will.”

She waited for him to close his door before returning to the lab to work on the ancient documents Edward had assigned to her.

She was heading to Harbor City at the end of the month, and she needed as much practice as possible to ensure she didn’t embarrass her mentor.

By the afternoon, the clear sky suddenly turned dark as massive storm clouds rolled in, plunging the world into gloom.

Lightning flickered behind the clouds, and the wind began to howl through the trees, rain tapping against the glass.

Tick… tick…

The droplets quickly turned into a torrential downpour.

Jade hurried to shut the window. She heard footsteps behind her, followed by Anthony’s voice.

“My mom just called to check on us. Let’s get going.”

She looked at the wall of rain outside, which made the road almost invisible.

“But it’s pouring out there.”

“It’s fine. I’ll pull the car right up to the entrance. You can hop in and you won’t even get wet.”

Anthony was already heading for the door. She didn’t have time to argue. Seeing him pick up the

pace, she grabbed her gifts and hurried after him.

They reached the entrance together.

Anthony saw the gift boxes in her hands and gave her a teasing smile.

“So you’ve got gifts for my parents. Did you forget me?”

“Of course not. I’d never forget you, Anthony.” Jade laughed.

She reached into her bag and pulled out a beautifully wrapped box, handing it to him.

“I know you love to practice calligraphy when you’re relaxing, so I picked out a premium fountain

pen for you.”

Anthony had been joking, so he was genuinely surprised she’d actually prepared something. He took the box and opened it.

It was the exact brand he liked-elegant, high-quality, and clearly chosen with care. His expression softened immediately.

“This is incredibly thoughtful. My current pen actually just ran out of ink. I’ll start using this one tonight.”

Jade had chosen practical gifts for the entire family, and seeing his reaction made her smile brighten.
