Chapter 64 Meet the Mitchells
It was subtle, but after years at Hudson’s side, Kevin could read him perfectly.
However, Hudson’s reaction this time was truly baffling.
While Hudson always had him buy gifts and report his itinerary to Jade, it was always a formality.
Unless it involved the Walter family elders, Hudson almost never took Jade’s calls.
Charles had even mentioned it to Hudson once.
Hudson’s response had been chillingly practical.
“You can’t spoil a woman, or she’ll start pushing her luck.”

Based on that, Kevin had assumed Hudson viewed the marriage as a minor convenience at best.
But looking at him now, that theory seemed to be falling apart…
The Maybach followed the Bentley into a prestigious gated community-Moonwatch Lake.
Moonwatch Lake was an exclusive riverside estate, known for housing the city’s most distinguished and scholarly families.
Security was incredibly tight. The Bentley was waved through, but the Maybach was stopped at the gate.
Kevin tried to talk to the guards, but they were unshakeable. He was forced to pull over to the curb. As the car sat idling, a palpable chill began to radiate from the back seat. He stayed silent, waiting for orders.
Two minutes passed. Hudson said nothing.
Kevin got the message loud and clear.
They were staying right here.
Bzz… bzz…
The sound of a phone came from the back seat.

Hudson pulled his gaze away from the gates and looked at his phone.
It was Amara Hoyt calling.
He answered, and Amara’s gentle voice filled the car.
“Hudson? Is the office still busy? It’s getting so late.”
Her tone was natural and familiar, as if they’d been living together for a lifetime.

A strange, subtle sense of discomfort flickered through Hudson’s chest. He tapped his finger against his knee.
“Yeah, it’s a long night.”
“Rosa made some incredible stew. Should I bring some to your office for you?”
“No, I’ve already eaten.”
“Okay then. I’ll let you get back to work. Just remember to come home and rest early.”
“Mm.”
He hung up and leaned back, his heavy gaze fixing on the back of Kevin’s head.
“Last time I had you check out Memoria Script Studio, what did you find about Moonwatch Lake?”
“Moonwatch Lake is where the studio head, Anthony Mitchell, lives with his parents,” Kevin replied.
“Ha.”
Hudson’s lips curled, but the expression was devoid of any warmth.
“So they’ve already reached the ‘meet the parents’ stage?”
“Mr. Walter, I really don’t think she’s that kind of person,” Kevin blurted out. “She’s probably just visiting a friend.”
The moment the words left his mouth, a cold, piercing glare hit the back of his neck like a physical blow, making his spine snap straight.
D*mn it.

Kevin shouldn’t have opened his mouth while he knew Hudson was already on the warpath.
Regret flooded him, but after a long silence, Hudson didn’t say a word.
It seemed he’d narrowly escaped a disaster. He let out a silent sigh of relief.
Tick… tick…
The rhythmic drumming of the rain on the windows was starting to fray his nerves.
The black Maybach remained parked in the storm, refusing to move.
While the outside was a world of oppressive gray, the interior of the Mitchell villa was a haven of warmth.
Jade had met Edward and Anthony, but she had never met the woman of the house.
The moment she walked in, she realized the mentor’s wife was the legendary founder of SY Jewelry and a powerhouse entrepreneur-Rory Mitchell.
SY was the country’s leading original jewelry brand.
