She had the kind of face that was immediately likable and disarming.
“Jade, come here, sweetheart. Sit with me.”

Rory approached and took her hand warmly, leading her to the sofa and pressing a bowl of fresh cherries into her lap.
“These are exceptionally sweet. Try one.”
Jade took a cherry and bit into it. The sugary flavor made her smile.
“They’re wonderful.”
She held the bowl out to Rory.
“Please, Ms. Mitchell, have some with me.”
“I will.”
They laughed and chatted as they ate, while Anthony rolled up his sleeves and headed into the kitchen to help his father.
Jade felt a bit awkward just sitting there and kept glancing toward the kitchen.
“I can actually cook quite well. Should I go help them out?”
Rory waved her off.
“Nonsense. They’ve got it under control. My specialties-sweet and sour ribs and slow-cooked pork hock-are already finished. You just make sure you eat your fill later. If you like them, you have to come back more often so I can cook for you.”
Jade listened, a sudden wave of emotion hitting her.
It felt like being back with her mother-having someone genuinely care about her and cook her favorite meals…
“I will!”
She nodded firmly.
“I’ll definitely eat as much as I can.”

Rory’s smile widened.
“You’re a serious one, aren’t you? That’s adorable.”
Jade blushed slightly, giving a shy smile.
“I’m just not great at small talk.”
“You’re perfect just as you are,” Rory said, her eyes fixed on Jade with genuine affection.
“Can I call you Jade? It feels more like family.”
Jade nodded obediently.
“I’d love that.”
Half an hour later, the table was set with a feast.

Edward and Rory kept piling food onto Jade’s plate, never letting it stay empty for a second.
Despite being a world-class restorer and a famous entrepreneur, they treated her with zero
ego.
They were warm and welcoming, treating her exactly like one of their own.
She loved the atmosphere of the Mitchell home. It made her feel safe.
As the meal wound down, Jade presented the gifts she’d prepared.
A set of premium calligraphy tools for Edward, and a beautiful, handcrafted silk scarf for Rory.
They both loved their gifts, admiring them with a genuine excitement that showed they weren’t just being polite.
Jade knew she’d chosen well, and a warmth filled her chest.
Before she left, Rory insisted on giving her a jewelry set and a stunning jadeite bracelet.
The jadeite was perfectly clear, with a pattern that looked like a misty landscape. It was clearly a museum-quality piece.
Jade tried to push it back.
“Ms. Mitchell, the jewelry set is already too much. I can’t possibly accept this bracelet.”

Rory put on a mock-serious face, her expression stern.

“I spent hours picking this out for our first meeting. If you refuse it, it means you don’t accept me as your mentor’s wife!”
Jade bit her lip, feeling torn.
Edward gave her a reassuring look.
“She truly believes these suit you. Just accept them. Besides, if the CEO of SY Jewelry gives her apprentice a cheap gift, she’ll never hear the end of it.”
“Take it!”
Rory practically slid the bracelet onto Jade’s wrist herself, scolding her with a playful glare.
“Don’t you
dare take it off, or I’ll be truly offended.”
The firmness wasn’t cold; it was protective. Jade’s lips curved into a smile as she finally accepted the gift.
“Thank you so much, Rory.”
Rory finally beamed, her stern mask vanishing.
“You’re no stranger now. No more formalities. It’s late, so I’ll let Anthony drive you home. Get some rest.”
Jade nodded.
“I will. Goodnight to both of you.”
