From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7 I’m Pregnant

“Be so difficult about it?”

Jade turned to look at Hudson. Her agitation made her voice rise. “I let you bring them here to take care of them. What more does she want? Should I smile and welcome her into your bed too? Would that stop me from being ‘difficult?”

“Jade!” Hudson’s eyes turned cold. “Don’t ever say anything like that again. Especially not in front of Amara. Is that clear?”

Ever since Hudson had skipped his own birthday to spend it with Amara at the club, Jade had known she ranked far below Amara in his heart.

She took a deep breath, forcing down the hurt and anger. Her face was expressionless when she replied, “Fine. I’ll just stay out of her way from now on. Happy?”

Hudson frowned. “Stop with the self-pity. Amara doesn’t owe you anything.”

With that, as if he couldn’t stand the sight of her for another second, he turned and strode away.

Jade stood silently where she was. Tears slid from the corners of her eyes again. She wiped them away quietly, then picked up the sketch she’d been working on, tore it to pieces, and threw it in the trash.

Her marriage to Hudson was like that shattered mirror in the drawing-covered in a web of cracks.

The next day, when Jade came downstairs, Hudson was having breakfast with Amara and Cortney.

In just one day, the house had visibly changed,

In the living room, the light-colored sofa cushions she had carefully chosen had been replaced with bolder, brighter red ones. The fresh, simple decorations she’d hung were now replaced with ornate, vintage pieces….

But hadn’t Hudson said Amara was just staying temporarily? Since when do guests redecorate?

She distinctly remembered how much Hudson hated change. Once, she’d replaced a vase in his study, and he’d warned her not to touch his things.

But now he was letting someone change everything about their home, and she wasn’t even allowed to be upset about it.

The difference between being loved and not being loved is so obvious.

There was no comparison before. But seeing firsthand how specially Hudson treated Amara

sweet was just a joke.

made her realize the three-year marriage she’d thought

Jade lowered her lashes, hiding the dull ache in her eyes, and left the villa without a sound.

Out of the corner of her eye, Amara noticed Jade’s retreating figure. A flash of triumph passed through her eyes.

At the breakfast table, Hudson seemed distracted. He kept checking his watch, his gaze drifting toward the stairs.

After about ten minutes with no sign of Jade, he tapped his fingers impatiently on the table. “Rosa.”

The housekeeper, Rosa, came out of the kitchen. “Yes, Mr. Walter?”

“Go upstairs and tell Jade to come down for breakfast,” Hudson said.

Rosa looked surprised. “Mr. Walter, Mrs. Walter went out a while ago. Didn’t you see?”

“She’s out?” Hudson’s brow furrowed slightly. He was already standing up.

Amara opened her mouth to say something, but he spoke first, “Amara, you and Cortney go ahead and eat,”

By the time Amara looked over, Hudson was already striding into the backyard, phone in hand, clearly making a call. It wasn’t hard to guess who he was calling.

Amara tightened her grip on her fork. Then her eyes landed on all the changes she’d made to the house. Her fingers slowly relaxed.

She gently placed a piece of scrambled egg on Cortney’s plate, “Eat slowly, sweetheart. There’s no rush.”
