Hudson was taken aback. First, she talked back to him. Then, she hung up on him. Now, she was being outright hostile.
The Jade he knew was always gentle and compliant. This wasn’t like her at all.
“Jade, there’s a limit to throwing a tantrum,” Hudson said, his face tight. He grabbed her wrist and started pulling her upstairs.
“Hudson!” Amara’s anxious voice called from behind. “Talk to Ms. Merchant properly. Don’t fight!”
Hudson took a deep breath, his grip on Jade’s wrist unrelenting, though his tone softened when he replied to Amara, “I’ll talk to her. Don’t worry.”
Jade noted the difference in how he spoke to her versus Amara.
It’s true what they say-you don’t feel the hurt till you see the difference.
All of his gentleness was reserved for Amara. For her, he couldn’t even be bothered to have a civil conversation.
Tears she had been fighting back welled up again. She struggled, trying to pry his hand off. “Hudson, let me go!”
Hudson ignored her, dragging her into the master bedroom and shutting the door with a sharp thud.
Jade stumbled onto the bed. She scrambled up immediately and retreated to a corner, clutching the curtains, her eyes wide and filled with tears. “What do you want?”
Seeing her cower like that stirred an inexplicable, restless irritation in Hudson.
He yanked his tie off and threw it on the bed. He paced for a moment, thought about going to her, but when he saw her shrink back further, his irritation only grew.
“Scared now?” he snapped. “Weren’t you brave when you weren’t talking to me properly?”
Jade sniffled. “You’re the one who wasn’t talking properly. Not me.”
Hudson thought about it. He had been dealing with a lot of stress lately, and he supposed his

Seeing her standing there, eyes red, looking utterly miserable, he sat on the edge of the bed and gestured for her to come over. “Come here. Let’s talk.”
It felt like he was calling a pet. Reluctantly, Jade stepped out from behind the curtains.
Seeing her just standing there stiffly, with no intention of sitting down, Hudson reached out, pulled her over, and trapped her between his legs. “Talk. What do I have to do to get you to stop this?”
Her wrists were caught, and his legs held her in place. She tried to wiggle free but couldn’t. Stuck in this awkward position, she finally spoke, “Hudson…”
Hearing her voice soften back to its usual tone, he thought she was finally ready to talk. The tension in his brow eased slightly.
“Let’s get a divorce.”
The words hit him like a physical blow. His face froze, disbelief washing over him. “What did you say?”
Jade enunciated each word carefully, as if afraid he might mishear. “I said, I want a divorce.”
As she spoke, she tried to struggle again. Hudson, perhaps thinking there was no need to hold her now, let go of her wrists and released his leg lock. He stared at her, his expression. unreadable.
Seeing that look on his face, Jade felt sure the divorce would go smoothly.
Hudson was a proud man. He’d only married her because John pressured him. Now that he was firmly in control of the Walter Group, John’s influence wasn’t as strong.
Besides, the woman he loved was back. This marriage probably meant nothing to him now.
Jade walked to the closet, pulled out the divorce papers, and handed them to him. “I’ve already signed. Look it over and sign if there are no issues.”
Hudson took the document. His eyes fixed on her signature on the first page for several seconds before he looked up, his gaze dark and piercing. “When did you prepare these?”
His intense stare made her uncomfortable. She managed to hold his gaze for only two seconds before looking away.
“That doesn’t matter. Just sign them, and I’ll pack my things and move out as soon as possible.”

“Hah.” Hudson let out a cold laugh and tossed the papers into the trash. “Jade, secretly planning a divorce, planning to move out… I never knew you had such nerve.”
Jade’s expression changed. “Why did you throw them away?”
She moved to retrieve them, but in an instant, Hudson lifted her and set her on the nearby vanity.
The vanity was high. Jade’s feet dangled, the lack of ground making her feel insecure.
Panic edged her voice. “Hudson, put me down!”
Hudson stood in front of her, blocking her way. “Promise me you won’t say such ridiculous things again, and I’ll let you down.”
“I’m serious,” Jade said stubbornly, meeting his eyes. “I want a divorce, Hudson. Just sign the papers!”
“A divorce?” Hudson’s hands locked around her waist, pulling her forward until their bodies were pressed tightly together.
His breath warmed her cheek as he spoke, “Jade, what did you say when you married me? You
word said you loved me. That nothing but death could part us. Are you going back on your now?”
Mentioning the past only made Jade think about how foolish and naive she had been, to think she could warm the heart of a man who never loved her.
The pain was sharp, tearing at her, and tears began to fall. “Well, what if I don’t love you anymore? I want a divorce. I want to leave you!”
Hudson’s hands tightened on her back, the force threatening to snap her slender waist.
think He pushed her back against the cool mirror, his icy gaze drilling into hers. “Jade, do you marriage is a game? That you can get in and out whenever you feel like it? Let me make this clear. From the day you married into the Walter family, you became one of us. You’re not going anywhere!”
Jade snapped, “I married you, I didn’t sell myself to you! What gives you the right to say that?”
She pushed against his chest, tears streaming down her face. “You already have someone else in your heart, so why keep me here? Just to watch you two be happy together? To watch you be all lovey-dovey until it kills me? Is that what you want?”
She knew there was no place for her in Hudson’s heart, or in this home anymore. The one who
