His Housewife Had Secret Identities novel Chapter 619

Niamh and Lana were both at the police station. Lana had come alone, but Niamh had Elmer by her side. At first, Elmer hadn’t known the full extent of what Lana had done. He only knew that The Thomas Group had suffered a severe blow after client data from the FZZL system was leaked. The company had launched an emergency PR campaign, but because they hadn't caught the real culprit, their claim of being attacked by malicious actors was widely dismissed online as a poor excuse.

However, after spending the previous night working on a strategy with Niamh, he now understood that the person responsible for this massive crisis was none other than Lana. Lana couldn’t bring herself to look at Niamh. She was too ashamed to face her. She didn’t dare look at Elmer either. Although he hadn't said a word to her since he arrived, his silence was confirmation enough. She knew Niamh must have told him everything. Lana was keenly aware that she no longer deserved to be their friend.

Officer Blake called the three of them into his office and summarized the progress of their investigation. “Jarrett, a geneticist, thirty-one years old. Three months ago, his body washed ashore and was discovered by a fisherman in a small village…”

Upon hearing those words, Lana’s legs went weak, and she nearly collapsed. Niamh glanced at her impassively. She could sense that Lana wasn't over Jarrett. Or rather, she still had feelings for him. The realization left Niamh with a complicated mix of emotions. Just then, Elmer gently put his arm around her shoulder. Their eyes met, and his calm, gentle gaze dispelled the gloom clouding her heart.

Officer Blake pushed a photograph across the desk toward them. “This is the deceased, Jarrett.”

Niamh and the others stared at the photo, completely stunned. “This is Jarrett?” Niamh asked in disbelief.

“The one and only,” Officer Blake confirmed. The man in the photograph bore no resemblance whatsoever to the Jarrett they knew. According to the investigation, this man, who had been dead for months, was the real Jarrett. The man who had gotten close to them was an imposter from the very beginning. He had stolen Jarrett's identity and forged his documents, likely all for the purpose of orchestrating this very moment. “He isn’t from Aldonia, so we can’t find him in our systems. That makes the investigation very difficult. It’s clear he’s a well-prepared corporate spy. In any case… we’ve done all we can.”

As they walked out of the police station, the tears Lana had been holding back finally streamed down her face. It was as if the last lifeline she had been clinging to had snapped, plunging her into deep despair. Niamh watched her friend, whose face was contorted by a mixture of anger, grief, and pain, and felt a pang of sympathy. But Elmer, walking beside her, remained a cold observer, looking at Lana as if she were a complete stranger.

The three of them walked out of the station and into the parking lot together, only to go their separate ways. Lana drove to a bar to drown her sorrows. Elmer, meanwhile, accompanied Niamh to The Thomas Group. The scandal had sent the company’s stock to a new low, and a number of shareholders were already at the office, demanding an explanation.
