Despite being the majority shareholder, Niamh held little sway over the company. The shareholders and employees barely knew her. Now, with such a massive scandal on their hands, few believed she had what it took to turn the tide. A sense of panic rippled through the company, from top to bottom.
“What kind of real talent can a woman who got the company in a divorce have?”
“We’re so unlucky to have the company fall into her hands.”
“Is a huge corporation like ours actually going to go bankrupt?”
“This is prime time for a buyout. If that happens, there’ll be layoffs, and we’ll all be out of a job.”
Niamh was standing by the breakroom door, listening to the employees complain, when a pair of large hands suddenly covered her ears. “Don’t worry,” Elmer’s voice came through, muffled but encouraging. “I’m here. Everything will be okay.”
