She had always been so sure that she would find Jonathan, even after leaving the center. But instead of his voice, the electronic tone echoing in her ear sent a growing chill through her heart.
She couldn't reach him.
From that day on, Niamh never saw Jonathan again. It was as if he had vanished from her life. Sometimes, in the dead of night, her mind would wander. She'd wonder if meeting Jonathan, getting to know him, falling in love with him at the center—if it had all been a beautiful dream, or perhaps a hallucination.
Gradually, Niamh stopped obsessing over finding him. It was impossible, anyway. She simply tucked away the precious memory of her first love deep in her heart, secretly looking at their one photo on her phone every day. She thought that if fate were kind, perhaps one day she would be reunited with him.
She never expected that before that day came, she would be cast out by her grandpa.
"Mr. Harley said that if she stays, she will bring ruin to the family... Hailey, didn't Carlotta's distant relative mention a friend of his? A widow who never had children... I believe her surname was Rivers?"
After that night's discussion between Niamh’s grandpa, Hayes, and Carlotta, Niamh was given to Gemma.
Niamh certainly didn't like the Quinn family, but Hayes and Carlotta were still her biological parents. She was a grown girl, yet she was being inexplicably handed over to a stranger. At first, Niamh refused to accept it. But no one in the Quinn family dared to defy the patriarch's decisions, and her refusal was not an option.
Just like that, Niamh became Gemma's daughter and moved to Port Solaris.
