Isaiah POV
“Son, are you ready?” I heard Dad call out.
“Yeah. I am just trying to get my tie straight.”
Dad laughed, “You never have been able to tie a good tie. Want some help?”
“Please,” I said sheepishly.
Dad smirked, “Tonight’s a big night. Tomorrow will be an even bigger night for you.”
“I know. Never in a million years did I think this would happen,” I responded. “Were you nervous when you became official?”
“Yeah. Doesn’t matter how much you train, son. When you are behind the wheel for the first time, you get nervous. Just remember you can only handle one day at a time. That will help you get through the most difficult days,” Dad said.
I’ve been a beta for three years, but Aiden has always trained me to be an Alpha from day one. He never thought he would keep his position because he hadn’t found Thalia yet. Either way, though, I was always his backup.
I think that is why I became so serious. Everything about being an Alpha is boiled down to one word…responsibility. I’m just grateful Aiden thought of me to take over Blackstone back then. I might otherwise have felt overwhelmed being the alpha here.
“Where’s my kid brother?”
“Big bro! You made it!” I said to Aiden while we hugged.
“Wouldn’t miss it. Have you seen Kaia yet?”
“No. Have you?”
“Briefly. She swatted me away when I tried to see Thalia,” he laughed.
“Sounds about right. She is loud and proud.”
“Then consider yourself lucky. The women in our family are all loud and proud, including Mom.”
“Don’t I know it,” I replied with a smile.
“Tomorrow morning, I want to see the cave. I will help you plot out a plan to get a dig underway.”
“Dad started today, but I know we did upgrades when you took over. I was doing a cursory review of the pack finances. I really think that Paul was skimming off the top. Numbers aren’t adding up.”
“You know, you have a mate who is excellent at information gathering, right?”
I stopped and laughed. “I have been so busy trying to figure things out around here, that I forgot I am mated to a canary. I will talk to her after the ceremony.”
Dad comes in and hugs Aiden. They talk a few minutes, and then Dad tells us it’s time. We go downstairs and to the back of the pack house. Mom set up everything so nicely. It’s earthy, and the smell of pine and musk is everywhere. It’s definitely my taste.
Mom came up from behind, and I gave her a hug. “Thanks for setting this up, Mom.”
“I had help, plus your Luna certainly knows your taste. She designed everything.”
I looked at my mom, “Really?”
