Old Mr. Blackwood grew even more excited. "Yes, yes, Brianna will be a bridesmaid! We'll have to discuss where to hold the venue, but of course, everything will be exactly as Serena wants it..."
Brianna practically vibrated with excitement, chattering away with her grandfather about wedding plans.
Nicholas listened as his family got further and further derailed, not only planning the wedding but mapping out their future children. He cleared his throat twice, trying to reel them in.
But the old man was lost in his joy. "We have to pick an auspicious date. I'll have someone look into it. I know what Old Mr. Lancaster likes, but I need to figure out what the rest of the family wants so I can prepare..."
"Ahem!" Nicholas coughed louder.
His grandfather glared at him. "What are you coughing for? Drink some water if your throat is dry."
Brianna covered her mouth, giggling.
Serena leaned back in her chair, listening to them without a hint of shyness. She took a slow sip of her milk.
"It's fine, I don't need him to serve me." Serena's tone was calm. She shot Nicholas a half-smile and chuckled. "I think Nicholas is the one who needs to build up his strength. He... definitely needs it."
It was an incredibly loaded statement.
Old Mr. Blackwood and Brianna exchanged looks. Their eyes widened as they slowly turned to stare at Nicholas. Then, their gazes simultaneously dropped downward...
