Once or twice was one thing.
But three or four times?
Her grandfather was trying to completely cut off any chance for Isabella to rely on her maternal grandparents for support.
Serena didn't think she was some charmer everyone would instantly fall for.
But now that she was back with the Lancaster family, it was indeed appropriate to visit her grandparents.
Besides... she had heard the elderly couple wasn't in the best of health.
If she went, maybe she could even help out.
With that in mind, Serena nodded. "Okay, I'll go with Mom to visit my grandparents next week."
On the second floor.
Isabella lay in bed, her face a sickly pale, broken only by the feverish burning in her cheeks.
Her bloodshot eyes were fixed on the phone in front of her.
The voices of the Lancasters chatting downstairs came through clearly.
Isabella's eyes were red with rage, her breathing heavy. "They said they'd treat me the same as before, but it's all lies! How is it the same? Before, whatever they did, I was the first person they thought of. But now? All they see is that damn hick Serena!"
Before Isabella could say more, Agnes quickly hung up the call.
She had worked for the Lancaster family for over a decade, and as Isabella's nanny, she had cultivated her own network of contacts.
She had one of her people cleaning the dining room while keeping the call open.
Originally, she wanted Isabella to hear if the family would mention or show concern for her since she couldn't come down for dinner.
