Chapter 157 I’ll Sing for You

Nina kicked and squirmed as hard as she could, but Benjamin held her steady without breaking a sweat.

She was so mad at being dragged away that she stomped on Benjamin’s stomach several times.

If Amelia hadn’t been watching, she would’ve smacked him, too.

“No! No go!” Nina said.

Even after they rinsed her hands, legs, and chubby feet with bottled water and buckled her into the car, Nina kept huffing, “No go!”

When the car actually started moving, and the trees outside began sliding past the window, she realized playtime was really over. Her little face turned into a furious steamed bun. She crossed her arms and ignored everyone.

She ignored Benjamin. She ignored Amelia. She even ignored William for the time being.

William watched her sulk in total silence and lowered his voice. “Amelia, maybe coax her a little? She’s not even making a peep.”

Amelia shrugged. “It’s fine. She’s finally quiet for once. Let her be.”

William’s heart ached, but he didn’t push it.

On the ride home, while Nina played mute, Amelia kep sneaking the sippy-cup straw into her mouth.

Nina was too mad to talk to Amelia, so instead of saying no water,” she just drank angrily.

Thanks to that, Amelia managed to get quite a lot of water into her.

The whole family was in the car-except Daniel.

Right now, Daniel’s heart was racing, eyes locked only on Alice.

Alice froze the moment she saw him.

After a stunned second, she turned to leave.

Daniel had spent forever tracking her down; he wasn’t letting her vanish again.

“Alice, just give me a chance to talk.”

Daniel grabbed her wrist. His perfectly handsome face was inches from hers, and his voice, the same voice Alice had secretly found so attractive, called her name ia rushed, pleading tone.

Alice’s expression softened a little.

Her attempt to pull away softened.

Daniel caught the tiny shift and instantly started explaining every misunderstanding in order.

“When I told Nina you were poor, it was only because I didn’t want her begging you for toys. She asks everyone!

“I never looked down on you. Really.

“Please… stop hiding from me?”

Daniel put his pride aside when it counted-he could dipp everything just like Nina did when she wanted something.

To keep Alice from running, he shamelessly copied Nina’s ultimate weapon: he swayed her wrist and softened his voice into a pleading whisper.

“Alice… don’t hide from me. Please.”

The little sway, the begging tone, and that voice that could melt any audio lover-it cracked Alice’s resolve in one second.

Daniel noticed she seemed to love his voice.

To test it, he leaned closer to her ear.

“Alice, all those misunderstandings were my fault. To make it up to you… I’ll sing for you.

“Want to hear?”

Alice’s eyes filled with conflict.

Daniel’s voice was already dangerously good. She couldn’t help wondering if he would sound even better when singing.

After wrestling with herself for a long moment, she still hook her head.

She wasn’t ready to get any closer to Daniel.

Daniel caught every flicker of hesitation in her gaze.

He knew he couldn’t push too hard with someone who ran at the slightest pressure.

So he pulled out his phone and shifted strategy.

“If you don’t want me to sing in person, then let’s exchange contact info.

“My friend recorded a few clips of me singing. I can sen them to you.”

Alice bit her lip. She could tell that unless she added his WhatsApp, Daniel would keep holding her wrist right there.

After a short pause, she took out her phone and added Him on WhatsApp.

The moment the connection went through, Daniel dug up several videos and sent them her way.

Even after sending them, he didn’t leave. When Alice sat she needed to go to work, he only backed off a little but still followed her down the road.
